Did anyone who has the waitlist letter in the portal get any other communication from the school? We only got the general acceptance with the waitlist link in portal
it wouldn’t. it says on their website that you will get one of 3 decisions: accepted, waitlisted or pre-business
no I don’t have a waitlist form, and also I never got an email from iu. Not even an email telling me to check portal. I got to know it came out through friends

I don’t think any students accepted for pre-business were notified they were rejected from Kelley yesterday.
I would look harder in your portal for a link to another letter. If you can’t find anything, you can reach out to your IU AO and ask.
Big picture I would encourage you to move forward with any other apps you need to send and familiarize yourself with the standard admit pathway to Kelley, assuming that is your only option at IU. Maybe you will want to do that, maybe not.
pre-business is the decision. it’s a rejection from Kelley but an acceptance to IU. if you were admitted to Kelley, you would have been admitted directly to a Kelley major (as many students were). And if you are waitlisted for Kelley Direct, that option will now be in your portal and you will hear back by April 17. Otherwise, if you were admitted pre-business without a waitlist option, you will have to meet certain academic requirements and then re-apply to Kelley direct next year.

Does it specifically say DA Kelley with Pre-business? Did they give any indication they are continuing to review for DA into Kelley?
It may not matter to you or your child, however if you are not DA into Kelley you should spend some time familiarizing yourself with their Pre-Business Standard Admissions Application Criteria. They have increased the ‘automatic’ progression threshold for kids with standard admissions paths - the threshold for automatic includes -every- IU class grade must be A(-) or above. That doesn’t mean a student with a B+ or two can’t get in, it seems worded to suggest their entire application will be review holistically for admissions into Kelley, rather than a check box and automatic path.
This was a major point of contention with current IU pre-business / standard admission pathway hopefuls in the prior year because it was altered on them from a lower standard to a higher one after they were already enrolled at IU as first year pre-business students.
If it would be a significant factor to your child attending IU or not (because of the higher Standard Admission risk factors during first year) - you might consider contacting Kelley Admissions to ask if there’s a way to be (re) evaluated RD for DA into a Kelley specific major - the RD application is still open thru Feb1st - so it’s conceivably possible?
They DO still have Kelley direct admit. They did away with “automatic direct admit” for Kelley. Other IU programs do continue to have direct admit to the major. For example: congrats, you were admitted to Arts & Sciences as a psychology major.
To anyone who is wondering about Kelley and why specifically their son didn’t get in with great stats:
This is pure opinion and guess. My daughter did a weekend at Kelley with girls from around the country for a one day business leadership class. It was just for girls. The professor/admissions officer teaching the class said they are concerned at the downward trend of the number of female applicants and graduates from their business school. So I have a feeling the stats for boys getting in vs girls might be skewed. It’s not fair and it is discrimination but most schools like to have a 50/50 split in their programs. I have a daughter who is interested in business but wouldn’t say she is in love with it. Many of her girlfriends are of similar attitudes who are going to college to start in business but who knows where they will end with.
Again, this is just my opinion gleaning from what an admissions officer projected to us over the summer.
As of last year there a 3 types of business acceptances:
- Direct Admit to Kelley (most straightforward path)
- Pre-Business admission. This means meeting certain grade cutoffs in freshman year, for admission into Kelley in sophomore year
- Rejected from Pre-Business and directly offered 2nd choice major. Students in this path will not be allowed to even take the pre-reqs required in freshmen year (A100, K201 etc.) and even if they do, will not be administratively processed for sophomore-year admission into Kelley, even if they commit to IU

100% agree that females are advantaged in the Kelley admit process. They have been favored for a number of years in the DA appeal process too.
This is different than at some schools, specifically many LACS where it’s easier for males to be accepted (higher admit rates and/or the school reaches lower in terms of stats.)

Don’t think the wording in the pre-business admit letter is there my mistake. I think Kelley will contact and provide information on the process of how a pre-business student can be admitted to Kelley for sophomore year. We’ll just wait for that.
This year it’s different. Seems like the groups are:
- Direct admit to Kelley
- Pre-business with wait list for DA to Kelly. Will hear back by April 17
- Pre-business with no option for wait list
- Admitted to second choice major - IU admit but not Kelley

My outstanding questions are roughly what percent are in each group? And will the wait list folks hear ON April 17 or is it going to be rolling admissions with people hearing at different times?

2023: 21,000
2024: 27,000
2025: 32,000
2026: (according to posters) 33,000 for Early Action SO FAR, excluding Regular Decision

But I called IU kelley and they said that we will recieve a decision today at 5ish from kelley.
This is for the people who got pre-business no waitlist.
