Indiana University - Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

I believe ACE (Kelley honors) is invitation only for incoming students. It is small and highly selective. I think last year kids had 1560s and higher on the SAT.
Hutton honors (all University) is direct admit based on stats (4.0 and 1500+), but there is also an option to apply as an incoming student if you don’t make it automatically on stats.
Once you are at Indiana, if you’re doing very well in your classes, I think you have the option to apply into either honors program.

Is SSA needs based or just another level of scholarships?

Our kiddo’s portal updated to Admitted late yesterday afternoon  They applied to a major in Hamilton Lugar, so should automatically be considered for direct admission. Does anyone happen to know if the admissions email will indicate if they received DA to HLS, or if they notify of DA later? We weren’t sure how similar their process was to Kelley’s (which is pretty well covered in this thread).

Anyone’s kids hear yet from application for the School of Education?

ACE is not Kelley Honors

SSA is a broad concept for scholarship consideration. It’s a merit based concept but some of the awards might be need based. The GSA is the primary needs based concept along with the FAFSA.

My bad! I thought those two were used interchangably when we visited.

OK a quick google …
Kelley honors is a program that runs soph-senior year.
ACE is a freshman honors program offered to the top Kelley direct admits. If you qualify, you will be invited to apply. Kelley ACE Program | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley
So basically, ACE is the only Kelley-affiliated honors program for incoming students. ACE guarantees admission into Kelley honors for soph-senior year. If you are not ACE, you can apply for Kelley honors in the Spring of freshman year. Business Honors | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley

Mine was direct admit to arts and sciences and it says that as program in the portal. So I’m assuming similar.

Do we need to complete GSA to be offered SSA?

No you do not have to complete GSA for SSA consideration. The specific college you are admitted to invites you to SSA via the University.

In maybe 10-15 days IU should release the non-applied scholarships a prior posted noted. For OOS that’s primarily the Dean scholarship which is roughly $9k. Not too dissimilar to what UO does if your child applied there and received their Summit scholarship.

You need to apply by 2/1 to GSA and SSA if invited. There is no first come first served concept. SSA used to be something you received within 10 days or so from admission, but now that they’ve moved to this early action concept with relative rolling admits, I don’t know that we’ll see that fast of SSA invites on an applicant to applicant basis. Remains to be seen.

I wouldn’t always believe everything you read on these sites of someone being admitted to or invited to scholarships or honors either as a general PSA.

IU would say that ACE is an accelerated coursework opportunity for high achieving students. And then Honors begins in the sophomore year. There is always a lot of confusion between Hutton, ACE and Kelley Honors. ACE is around the “top 4%” of the incoming class at Kelley however they define that. Wanting a child to be “honors” versus understanding what honors means in practical application at the University is a real challenge for parents and applicants and certainly that is true with ACE.

what are the normal requirements for the dean’s scholarship?

Apply to IU is the normal requirement. Anything else depends on the class of applicants and IU’s funding for the scholarship in budget.

Thanks for that info. The HLS website seems to suggest that evaluation for DA might happen after students receive admission notification from the IU Office of Admissions, so I was curious if anyone has experience with this yet. Just trying to know how to interpret the email when it arrives :slightly_smiling_face:

Not sure if HLS is different than Co AS, I think I saw that my daughter as a direct admit to CoAS is also eligible for Hamilton Lugar and Media. Frankly IU is the most complicated of the thirteen she has applied to, from the portal, admission process, and financial perspective! (Though UMass seems to be trying pretty hard to confuse us, too)
