Plot thickens…
D submitted GSA last night. That triggered an email to her IU email and a portal change in oneIU Scholarship section today inviting her to SSA. Not sure if that means you have to submit GSA to find out if you are invited to SSA. We weren’t going to try for GSA as we don’t qualify for need-based aid. But now I guess I’m glad I asked her to do it.
Interesting! How did you navigate the hardships issue? What is the nicest way to say, we don’t exactly need the money, but we’d really like the money?
Any more news on getting / not getting HHC scholarship in mail?
Sorry what’s GSA and where is the link and information?
General scholarship app. It will be referenced in kids acceptance email
You do not need to apply to GSA to be invited to SSA, but you cannot apply to SSA until you apply to GSA. It’s not a trigger to receive SSA, but if IU has determined an invite to SSA the app to GSA will trigger that option in the portal.
The word change in portal from applicant to application means nothing, but if you want to see it as optimistic you should because IU will reply by Jan 15 so they are in fact actively reviewing your application or imminently will be doing so.
Hutton will come in due time for those IU also has already reviewed to be invited.
Dean’s scholarships you receive immediately can and will be adjusted as IU hones in on its applicant pool. Anything you receive today or do not is just a start.
Stressful time, good luck. Whomever wrote enjoy your kiddos in this time had the best advice of all on this thread.
That was me. This is my baby applying to college and my first three were Computer Science guys applying to schools like Purdue and UIUC. Now, that is stressful. But, I am here to tell everyone that they all end up where they belong and somehow the college admissions counselors know who will fit and who will not. Getting denied from a school is really heartbreaking, but, in the grand scheme of life a blip. For many of these high stats kids it is the first disappointment they will face. So, once again, encourage your children to enjoy their senior year…and parents should enjoy it with them. You will be an empty nester sooner than you would like!
Thanks GSA seems needs a 1000 words essay ? What else we need to submit. Looks like we need to say Fafsa yes ? But this year Fafsa is not open yet ?
Do we need to submit FAFSA to unlock SSA/merit aid?
Submitted 10/11
Portal Acceptance 11/29
Kelley DA email 12/1
Paper/Mail Acceptance with Dean’s Scholarship ($8,000/year for 4 years) 12/12
Stats are included in an earlier post.
She said no to Fafsa, we aren’t doing it
GSA is essay plus a list of activities, she used common app as the basis for those
My kid got an email a week after the decision was in the portal. Got a physical letter a week or so after the email.
So for the Hutton Honors Scholarship… to confirm, if not received in mail = no auto, meaning apply for it through SSA?
Does anyone know how selective / the requirements for it? It may seem a small amount but it matters!
Best wishes to everyone during these stressful times. Enjoy the holidays
Can you pay for housing already?
Are there any Early Action applicants still waiting?! Application was complete in September but nothing yet. Seems like most kids have a decision… wondering if this is a bad sign that we haven’t heard.
Waiting as well - twins both applied on 10/30.
One applied Business and the other Arts & Sciences.
We are still waiting. Submitted 10/21.
still waiting here
Applied in mid-October
DS stats would auto-qualify for Hutton Honors so not going to read anything into the timing since 1/15 is still a month away.
Still waiting! Wondering if they offer high stats first and we’re closer to the average round?
