Indiana University - Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

I find IU scholarships to be a bit tricky to navigate. SSA is Selective Scholarship Application. Best to understand it IMO by stepping back.

IU has some scholarships they award without application - Dean’s and Provost being the most often awarded.

Some are awarded initially like the Hutton scholarship but may also be awarded later through the GSA (General Scholarship Application).

Others like Holland/Hudson are generally part of the SSA application, but you can also fill out an alternative application. Some you are nominated for like Wells.

The scholarship portal will match you to potential recommended opportunities - like are you the child of a former IUAA officer (just making that up, but they are pretty specific).

And finally the SSA provides departmental consideration for your, usually direct admit, path of study. So a Luddy student invited to SSA will be considered by Luddy for departmental specific scholarships. SSA is due 2/1 so if you are not invited really soon it’s not happening.

FAFSA is required for some, others it is not.

Posters on this thread seem continually surprised that their admissions packet does not provide more money so maybe IU is unusual or they are used to private schools.

Hopefully that is a helpful read rather than many answers to questions on money.

We are in the same boat, daughter applied end of Sept. She looked at me last night and was like, 85% acceptance–but we don’t know what it will be THIS year. Here’s hoping they come through…

I don’t have the login info for my son’s portal (which is probably for the best, or else I’d be obsessively checking), so I keep asking him to check. Not sure if he’s checked today.

Congrats to all. We are still seeing the same “Applicant” status as it has been since early September. Worst -case scenario is four more days :grinning:

Congrats!! FYI - the email came sooner than a week. My twins both accepted earlier this week and I think it was just a couple of days. Have not gotten the letter in mail yet which would include any merit

thank you! Son did get a Dean’s one with direct admit to Kelley. He just completed the GSA and those that were recommended do not apply. No mention of SSA from what I can tell in portal or email, so guessing that’s not happening. Thank you again for you insights!

…I saw it first on the portal just a few minutes ago…and plan to keep it quite… he’s still at school now… but we’ll see how long it takes for him to find out the news, will he receive an email to say status has changed? TIA!

Good idea! I think it says right in the email congrats you are admitted.
Update: just checked and he was admitted on Jan 9 in the portal and the email came Jan 10 @ 8:30pm. The email says #IUSAIDYES

I suspect all EA decisions will come out by EOD tomorrow (1/12) vs 1/15 given the weekend and Monday is a holiday in US.
