Don’t you also think most colleges have a good understanding of the high school profile to assess rigor / GPA for applicants which factors into decisions?
Colleges look at admitted students from your high school to get a factor of what the grades you received in context at the first level.
From there it’s really slotting you into a software algorithm of the inputs. And the question which is still really new is what to do with TO in that algorithm. Rigor is important but it’s not the I took 24 APs that people seem to think it is. You could go to a small high school where they have 2 APs total offered. They really want to see in rigor of whether you tried to press yourself with what was available. Not raw numbers which the very high stat crowd likes to discuss.
Just for fun to share, my son still hasn’t gotten a decision (today is 1/12) but did get the IU email today about filling out the FAFSA. What strange timing. Probably means nothing, but it feels crazy to me that they would send that and possibly reject him today, over the weekend, or Monday. Right?
IU will answer whether it’s rejection, admittance or anything else by 1/15. Believing they would not on the weekend or a holiday is inaccurate.
No. There are so many high schools. Admissions offices don’t have the time - despite the PR
My daughter did, too. She asked if it was a sign. Nope, just a tease.
We got that too. I’ve been told that Financial offices are completely separate from admissions. I wouldn’t read anything into it. (sadly!)
Yeah, sorry to say, but we got that email, too, and son was denied.
I’m sorry he got denied . I see above that he got into his #3. Congrats!
Naviance and any other school software can run that report. AOs are not literally looking at a transcript and digging into it. They are getting a score based on prior high school admits. Usually rating it 1-5 on points.
I think they do have these stats from over the years of applicants.
I’m sorry to hear this! We’re still waiting. Did you discover this in the portal or an email?
I’m going to disagree here again. Everything has changed since covid. We are in a heavy lock-down state. Our kids are sending apps to southern schools (more open states) post covid that previously were not in demand a few years ago. The ex-missions from our public high school is radically different from pre-covid and most of our students are being deferred at southern state schools b/c (I imagine) we offer less APs and therefore lower GPAs. I don’t think our state even has the IB program, certainly not at public schools.
Through the portal. The portal said an email would come later.
We got the FAFSA too but we are not EA but RD, so don’t think it means anything
At the end of the day, I understand that colleges have to have SOME kind of criteria to decide who gets in. It still hurts, but I get it!
True. i have seen some stats here that is crazy. 4.99W, 4W and 1400 SAT. How is this possible?
lol same here!
I also think football was great for my son’s resilience. You have a bad play. You regroup … and run it again. No second guessing what you did 5 minutes ago (that’s what you do watching tape on the weekend). Just focus on the play. And no matter how badly you performed, or even if you didn’t play a second in the game, you walk off the field head held high like a champion.
That’s great news, congrats, fingers crossed from his top choice, too!! And thank you for the good vibes!
They use reported. So many you are seeing are weighted. IU isn’t a tough admit but, like any school, there are minimums, if you will so it’s understandable why a 3.0 wouldn’t get in. At the same time, like every flagship, it’s got TONS of really accomplished kids - and it’s got a host of wonderful programs - from business, to journalism, to its Hamilton Lugar school.
@kittybecks Louisville is a fine school, great sports tradition - and he’s right be the big amusement park!! Actually, the downtown is AWESOME too.
Congrats to him.
It’s not the where but what he does while he’s there - and he’ll get lots of opportunities at Louisville, if he ultimately chooses it.
Whose the other?? UK??
