Indiana University - Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

If we don’t receive an a decision by EOD, is it likely that an answer could come on Sat or Sun or will we be waiting until Monday?

What does it mean if I see “In progress” under status in the portal

I’ll go out on a limb and suggest that it means his application review is underway.

Strange, I don’t think anyone else has had that. Must be a snapshot in time that many others miss. Keep an eye on it, any minute now!

Yep, agree. my daughter is a ski racer. If they crash, everyone knows and there’s no one to hide behind. And they have to race in rain, snow, ice etc so they learn to play the hand they are dealt. (Not so great for parents though, very stressful!)

i just got deferred any suggestions for what i can do to maybe get accept ik it’s a very unlikely possibility but if anyone has any tips i’d really appreciate it

Absolutely. I wouldn’t say we were surprised he didn’t get in, but still disappointing to get the news.

His other choice is UCinci. Their decision day is January 23. We’re Indiana residents so we get in-state tuition at some OH and KY schools, including Cinci and U of L. He does want to be in a “bigger” city, and Cincinnati and Louisville are both really cool cities, so I think he’ll be happy at either!

How were your first semester grades? If great, get them in and that might do it for you.

I had almost all As accept for two B+ in two out of the three AP classes i’m in (i take 6 classes total)

Yeah - if you want to be in a larger city, then IU isn’t it. It’s a nice town but it’s not a city.

The other two would then be better choices.

If he ends up at Louisville, I’d call it a win!!!

And if he’s into sports, it’s the ACC!!!

Very true! Bloomington isn’t big at all, but there is a lot to do, so I guess that’s more of what he wants. I know he’ll love Cinci or Louisville, and honestly, I think they’ll both be better than IU when considering connections for a career in his program (just my uneducated opinion ). I know Cinci has a really good internship program for Sports Admin. IU was more of a disappointment because it’s our state school. Either way, it’ll all work out!

Cincy has co ops - you can see if they have them in sports.

If he likes Bloomington, you might check out U of Kansas…it’s going to be similar in size from the larger city and to me similar. It will also be good. And it’s priced right.

Ohio U is another but definitely not the city or close to part - but good in the area of study. And an easy admit.

Good luck.

I don’t think Cinci had co-ops for the Sports Admin program, but the internship program was very similar!

My son was just deferred. Covid was tough on him so he has a 3.58 gpa and 1300 SAT. Applying for business so that’s tough. He had all A’s first semester of this year so we’ll submit those and see what happens.

We had “In Progress” and after clicking:

"
Thank you for your interest in Indiana University Bloomington. Due to the competitiveness of our applicant pool, the admissions committee must defer making a decision on your application at this time. In order to make your application more competitive, we encourage you to submit higher test scores and/or a more recent grade report. We will continue to review your application, including any new materials, while taking into account the strength of our applicant pool. You will receive a response no later than mid-March." - all good we are into 8 other schools

in the same boat

Do not underestimate some deferrals as just plain running out of time for Jan 15 on an uncertain applicant pool. 3.58 is nothing to sneeze at, very strong applicant. Common app continues to increase number of applications earlier.

No way…that’s an “A-” average! Do you live in Indiana?

Dont give up! Maybe send a letter of recommendation along with your most recent grades. Do you mind sharing your gpa?
