I think every school - including in the south where my kid went - respected as you say. My kid lost an entire semester at Alabama. So I would disagree that they respected.
But some loosened or removed restrictions earlier than others.
Even Ron DeSantis had a mask mandate that he forgets to remind people about - and also higher levels of illness.
I take no stand.
Wherever your student is happy to attend, I say great.
But I don’t suspect will see forced restrictions anymore…at least that’s my hope and belief.
But I also have no issue with anyone, including students, wearing masks or a professor asking students in their class to wear a mask.
I do think a lot of the “spin” is the typical - one party knows how to do PR and the other doesn’t - but all states had restrictions; yes, some longer than others.
Best of luck.
PS - no one was forced to vaccinate. Anyone and everyone had the chance to leave.
Folks - I like the passionate debate and no issues with the views being shared but suggest we pull this thread back into being about Indiana adminissions
Yes as noted I was simply replying to @SoCal92780 comment on coming to where there weren’t restrictions. Noting it wasn’t correct. That’s all. Agreed - back to IU.
We are not forced to reply to every post or topic on here. Back to IU.
Today I’m confident IU will have told all pre-Nov 1 applicants something. Then the regular admissions will begin. Hutton IU reviews should occur over the next 2 weeks and then you can fill out a petition. Today is the first day you might (but almost certainly will not) hear from Kelley on petition. Everyone should fill out GSA and any recommended opps that apply to your student. SSA closes on 2/1.
Housing I believe opens 2/1 and while it says no priority thru May 1 we were very much encouraged to apply on 2/1 for JLLC by Kelley. DA days begin and anyone invited should sign up for one.
It is an exciting time as it moves from did I get admitted to where will I attend. I wish everyone the best of luck in their journey.
I do not think Kelley reviews will be released this week. I knew they would not be released prior to today. I do not believe Kelley will release any reviews pre 2/1. What Kelley knows today is the auto-stat admit number. What they do not know is how many petitions they will receive until 2/1.
Whether DA days fill up with auto admits will also drive their decision timing a bit. If those Fri/Sat events fill - no urgency to admit for someone to attend something that is at capacity.
Kelley wants to admit kids because admitted kids attend IU. They aren’t delaying just because they can. They try to look at how many non-petition pre-biz still exist from the admitted students as of 1/15 and run estimates on stats for admit. For ex - if 5,000 petitions still pending to be submitted that might be the top 5k petitions. If 5 are pending, they will start to admit.
No I do not believe Kelley has ranked any petitions. It has probably scored some. I do not think they are reading all 10,000 from 2/1-4/15. Ranking would occur after 2/1.
Our son got an accept from IU - pre-business. He has applied to Kelly - Review Request submitted on 12/9 (he did not do SAT, hence going with a good GPA 3.82). When should we expect to hear from Kelly Review Request - our email acknowledgement from Kelly says rolling notifications. thanks
Probably a better question for Kelley petition forum, but it has come to my attention that people define “rolling”: as it comes in. Kelley either has not updated their communication or defines rolling as “periodically”. You should “expect” to hear from Kelley in mid-March. Could be earlier and could be later. You can peg where IU assumes your SAT would have been with Dean’s/Provost award amounts and SSA invitation. Kelley is extremely stats focused on review. 3.82 is an amazing GPA, really depends on the rigor. Kelley cares a lot about the rigor with the GPA on review. Ironically on auto-admit - not so much. Just the raw number. But that’s why they require the SAT/ACT.
@jefrobertson would love your take on our next steps.
S24 is admitted, has submitted GSA, and will submit to follow up opps in the next week.
We are signed up for the first DA day weekend.
I thought next step was Hutton petition. But it sounds like you would recommend waiting a couple weeks to see if it just shows up, and instead focus on essay writing for JLLC? So that he can submit on 2/1? (He is 4.2 and 1380 if that is useful info)
I was originally thinking he would learn more about JLLC on DA day and submit after, but you believe there is an advantage to early submission?
Thank you!
this is what I’m wondering. I applied Nov 1st so really hoping it comes out today. My parents are thinking it’s a bad sign since we haven’t gotten a decision yet so now I’m anxious about it. I know I meet the DA for Kelley so I’m not too worried but it’s still sooo stressful waiting.
In other news, congrats to everyone who has been admittted thus far !!
I’m not sure IU lets you petition for Hutton until 2/1 but regardless that’s the date they say to wait. Personally I don’t really see the Hutton value in Kelley. To each their own. Your Dean’s value can probably give you a good estimate of Hutton chances. Kelley told us a while back to apply for JLLC immediately if you wanted that, I doubt 2 weeks is going to matter to wait but who knows. Things with housing may have changed. And if you spending any real time on JLLC essays there may be better hobbies to explore just sayin…
I will also chime in to say that JLLC is not necessary for the Kelley experience. I think it is actually good to get out to the Kelley bubble and there is not any negative consequence for not living in the JLLC. To be considered certainly, but not for everyone.
