Does anyone know if they do a holistic review including ECs if you petition for Kelly? Just seems interesting that direct admit would only be based on two criteria - gpa and sat/act - when skills needed to succeed in business world also come from other sources like leadership roles, job experience, etc.
If your DD meets the Auto DA criteria, Iâd say you have nothing to worry⊠itâs just a matter of time⊠itâs guaranteed admission to Kelley⊠of course they need to be first admitted to IU first, but thatâs more of a formality, especially for kids with 3.8+ GPA and 1370+ SAT scores.
Got to feel for kids with like a 3.79UW (with extreme rigor) & 1500+ SAT scores who have to go through this anxiety for next 3 months.
S25 got his decision yesterday. Direct Admit to Kelley. It was actually a day after everyone else at his school got theirs, so a bit nerve-wracking.
We were told they do not look at the common app which seemed odd to me. I called them several months ago and they confirmed this. In the review request, there are the two essays and then an additional info section. They said to put all of your extracurriculars you want them to see there. This was pretty shocking to me b/c how the heck were we supposed to know that?
Thank you. Yeah - I find it so interesting how they are admitting direct to Kelley only on those two criteria. If you went TO or missed that cutoff by a point, now have to petition and compete with for very few spots when if a holistically view of application was maybe conducted, probably showed that they were a good fit for direct admit. Not sure how this process compares to other schools?
Have not heard yet⊠Son will have to petition as test optional so sounds like incredibly unlikely he will get one of the petition spots. Last year at our school only girls got petition spots, maybe they were trying to even out M/F ratio (not sure if this is true). My DS has 3.9 weighted and 3.7 UW and varsity athlete multi sport captain, QB of football team, and lots of community service and other leadership, but sounds like it is an impossible dream for him, which makes me so sad b/c it would be perfect.
Wondering two questions - one - if he gets into IU but pre-business, could he still attend if not in kelley or does he need to change his major? Iâm not sure if he would take that path.
Two - if he does that, how hard anyone know to get into Kelley sophomore year? Anyone else considering? Do they treat this group like second class citizens or are the basically similar and just need to get Bs? I feel like he could get Bs and maybe should try thisâŠ
Iâm worried my application wasnât considered under early action. I submitted my materials and everything as noted on the portal on October 28th. But i accidentally resent my transcript so it shows everything submited before Nov 1 and the additional transcipt(which is the same thing) being in december. Will it reset my application?? I havenât heard back like other people so iâm a bit worried
If you were hoping for a Kelly Auto DA, then it may matter. Otherwise, not really.
What does it say in your Application Status in the portal?
application complete, and it has said that since october 28
yes i have the stats for kelly DA
They are exactly the same. No one has any idea if they are direct or not. Automatic entry to Kelley at end of freshman year if have a B or higher in every class they take, not just business courses.
Itâs confusing. I also donât know realistically how many petition spots are available and if those are rolling or not. Last year it seemed rolling but this year Iâm not sure. Will we really be waiting until April?
Thank you! So if he gets into IU (assuming he would based on his stats) can he still do the Kelley route ⊠Im guessing not eligible for the Kelley day. Wondering why more dont do this? Bs is really that hard?
He can do the Kelley route. My son was standard admit and literally no difference except didnât do Kelley day. His freshman roommate was a direct admit and they had the exact same classes (except for gen ed). Depending on your child, Bâs is very doable. They cannot drop/withdraw from classes either. If they get a B- in a class there is a still a chance but would have to petition again.
If he gets into IU and is accepted into âPre-Businessâ he will take the exact same classes as Kelley DAs during his freshman year. He wonât be able to attend Kelley DA days, but he could attend Red Carpet Days which are open to all IU accepted students. My oldest daughter is a sophomore and was Kelley DA, but she had a friend who was Pre-Business and applied to Kelley at the end of his freshman year. The only real difference is the added pressure to get Bâs or better (not B-, no withdrawls, etc) in EVERY IU classâŠnot just the Kelley ones. A few of the freshman Kelley classes are hard: Accounting, Computers for Business, and Economics come to mind. If your son is a strong student, he should be fine.
My suggestion is to call admissions and clarify. Otherwise it doesnât hurt to petition when in doubt. Thatâs what they say on the Kelley admissions site that if any doubt - petition!
Thank you both - for your son that was a standard admit, was he able to get into Kelley?
Also - if they get Bs, is it automatic, they just have to âapplyâ? Wondering what percent of kids do this. Seems like a good option but maybe Im missing somethingâŠ
If they get Bâs or better, it is automaticâŠthey just apply. I have no idea how many kids choose the standard admit route. In my daughterâs case, had she not gotten DA to Kelley, she may have chosen to go to another university where she did get direct admission into their business program. For her, getting direct admission mattered. She just didnât want the added pressure of having to jump through another hoop. I canât say that this is the reason others choose to go somewhere other than Kelley, but it may be a factor.
So if direct admit to Kelly - donât need to get B or better. Can get C and still okay?
