MSU Broad is the same. They take very few as freshmen DA. Otherwise a whole new application process for standard admit with limited spots.
Direct Admit is ideal - you know you got in.
Standard Admits like PSU Smeal and Kelley are also reasonable - as you know it’s entirely on you, even though not easy by any means.
I’m hoping more will go out!!
Those waiting for Kelley review petitions, any idea the earliest decisions will start rolling in?
My D25 missed the UW GPA criteria for Auto Admit by a whisker despite an outstanding SAT score. Kelley is her #1 choice (besides a very high reach which is unlikely) ever since she made up her mind to study business 2 years ago.
That’s why PSU is better. Smeal or DUS all take the same route
Praying to the Hoosier Gods for 1) my son to be admitted to Indiana University before January 15th and 2) for the football team to defeat Notre Dame tonight.
Is that too much to ask?
Did anyone utilize the additional info section on the review request for Kelley? We were told to use that to list any activities or ECs that my daughter would want them to see bc they don’t see the common app in the review request. Just transcript and the two essays (and test scores if sent).
Agree. Tell the kids the classes and grades they need to take and put it on them. Although my son is still waiting for his decision. A couple of others in his class heard back but not sure if they are business majors. I’ll have to ask.
I talked to admission office yesterday. “Possibly” more to go out today. “Definitely” none during week of Christmas (next week), but then anytime up to Jan. 15 after that. FWIW.
Admissions will always tell you anything is possible. The biggest sporting event for IU in 22 years is in 6 hours - that’s where the focus is today. And tonight will be the biggest enrollment/admission/application driver for IU in its history. Go Hoosiers. Like I wrote early - I’m probably wrong.
Thanks! Would be awesome if we got an acceptance during the game and they’re winning!!
What can I include in the Additional Comments section on the review request?
You may include any information you feel the committee needs to know when reviewing your request for direct admission. Examples could include an injury or life event that affected your academic performance or mental well-being. The Additional Comments sections is not for an additional short answer topic or continuation of the short answer.
You’re always so helpful. Really!! Thank you!
Not based on anything other than what we observed last year (we are in state): if your daughter has a really high SAT score, I’m betting she will get in and hear in one of the earlier rounds of petition decisions. It seems like Kelley tries to balance their class (gender wise). My daughter’s girl friends (decent GPAs but went TO) all heard “yes” pretty early on (can’t remember when exactly - January?, but I do remember they WERE able to attend the 1st Direct Admit Day with her). Best of luck!
Yes we saw that initially. When we called Kelley admissions, they told us to include her activities and EC’s in this section almost like a resume. This didn’t seem to be well known.
My D21 is in UVA Engineering. Her friends who are top students couldn’t get into McIntire. It’s so competive. Some ended up at Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. They all worked so hard and are A students. My D21 said sometimes, it really depends on who you know (like friends with). The more connected the student is, the more likely he/she would get into McIntire.
Thanks for the info. Yes, it is very tough. UVA is a great school, so we want him to have a plan B and C if he’s lucky enough to get in. Although he hasn’t heard back from UI yet (he would be a Kelley DA based on stats), we are hopeful he will get in and have another great choice if UVA does not work out. A top 10-15 business school is a great option!
Does anyone know if the review request can be updated? My son did not fill this portion out, thinking info was available in common app.
I’m interested in this as well. He also submitted it not knowing it should be populated.
I think it’s tricky because I don’t think it is required. Much like the additional info section on the common app, some kids choose to use that in different ways. There are several places on the Kelley website where they state they don’t review the common app but it’s kind of buried in the facts/questions. Obviously students can talk about ECs in the essays but it’s limited space. I’m not sure how much value can be put on the activities if they don’t review the common app. I was surprised when they said to list all the activities in that section. Why not make it well known? I can appreciate the clarity on direct admission but the petition process seems like a bit of a mess.
When can we expect to begin receiving our admission packets in the mail which include the merit scholarship amounts?
