Did your D file the Kelley petition, available in her portal? If not, she should do that ASAP.

My kids portal no longer has admission status and instead only entry term as Fall 2025. He is pre business and submitted the review petition. I guess we should received email confirmation shortly. Weird doesn’t mention anything about application status like other university portals.

Same here. With some optional statement link?! I’m assuming this means a deferral is coming?

Could it just mean a decision has been made? My daughters still says “awaiting decision.”

The optional statement link has info that seems to suggest it’s a way of showing continued interest. Honestly my kid isn’t even gonna want to do this. To ask for another 200-400 word essay in mid Jan is ridiculous and I would support him not bothering to complete this assuming it is what I think it is. Absurd.

its says optional. This was the essay Indiana Uni portal direct applicants had to submit. My kid used Common App and they accept that essay instead. But your correct
this optimal statement popping now with no info on Applicant status update (note Application complete status is also gone) is a bit concerning. If they ask this optional for deferral then it is beyond absurd for them to do at this stage. My kid already wrote the Kelley review request essay. He has other acceptances and will move on. Let’s hope it is not the case.

Yeah if this is a deferral coming and the only way to stay in the running is to write this essay in mid Jan, my child will def take a pass. He has other options that he’s happy with and other deferrals that don’t require new essays. It’s stupid and actually obnoxious imo. IU I’m sure is a great school but it ain’t the be all end all. No sour grapes intended.

IU has a nearly 75-80% acceptance rate
hope they don’t ask this optional statement for deferrals and shoot themselves in the foot long term. Already they pissed off many applicants with their portal and transcript/material receipt glitches. Let’s keep up the hope that it is not the case!

Essay subject seems like the one my son wrote for Kelley appeal so it is already done
May be this and Kelley portals are not connected

Kelley review request essays were different and there were two prompts. This is the same essay prompt for non common app applicants.

I get where you are coming from, the only one who wins in your outline is IU. It’s transactional not emotional. AOs want to accept everyone, deferrals if that happens is a part of that journey. The 80% acceptance is extremely misleading. As much as you retain the power, the better off you are. An essay doesn’t need to be a work of art, sometimes it’s a list. They just want to know if you have additional information because they want to admit you - it’s possible to see it as not stupid and obnoxious. They could otherwise just take what they have and decide, if that’s better don’t send anything else in. Plenty of deferred students will be filling that out for Harvard and Ball State and anything in between - wait lists and deferrals are a massive part of college apps now.

I have no energy for the “pissed off applicants” in the replies here - it aint personal. Move on. IU will be fine, so will others. These people in admissions are working hard, same with IT, you don’t like it, cool. I’m sure they have a suggestion box. Go Hoosiers.

On the portal. Still nothing

It is not personal. We don’t need your judgements on what the applicants/ parents feel about this process. So don’t pontificate! Our concerns/comments are directed at IU. Not sure why you have take up the mantle to defend IU. Peace!

It’s one thing to provide other info, grades, testing, recommendations etc or to write a letter of continued interest. To ask kids in mid January for a supplemental essay that they could have asked kids to write back in the fall is ridiculous. Full stop. Esp knowing that kids are gonna have other options at this point. I get what you’re saying but I actually disagree bc I think it’s truly obnoxious. Esp after kicking the can down the curb earlier this fall and moving their decision date by several months. Beyond ridiculous.
