Sure, I understand. I mentioned āsafetyā in context of her other more selective options.
Itās all wide open right now. IB career path isnāt set in stone too, so she may chose something that offers broader flexibility, resources and career outcomes.
Yeah, tell me about this āhard partā lolā¦
But I guess itās a good problem to be had, or may be not. DDs decision to make, Iām committed to support her with whatever she decides eventually.
I agree, picking what you feel is right for you is more important than a ranking/ābestā opinion.
A prestige name may help with the entry-level position, but that becomes less valuable as the opportunities to move up come along.
In the long-run, the school will be just another line on your resume, and the interviewer will be evaluating you on attitude, experience, and what you can do for them.
Most of the academic skills required to do well in business can be taught at any school, imoā¦.
Yes exactly! Fordhamās access, location and placement in nyc is amazing. So much to consider. We live in Boston so our daughter can always intern at home. Lots of good options. I went to Clemson and my parents were not in an urban area. I had four internships including one with GE finance and BoA my junior year with paid housing and ended up in investment banking. Anything can happen!
All great points. Will share with DD.
I believe parents own experiences shape so much of how they end up guiding their kids.
Thankfully I have self-awareness of not being the right person for her chosen major/career-path. Iām more suited to guide Comp Sci majors, much to the chagrin of DD. Her mom too is of little use being an Architect⦠lol.
Do you have any insights on GW business school?
Very confused if itās worth it in comparison to the other weāre discussing here. (assuming CoA isnāt a concern)
DD was excited at the idea of being in the heart of DC, and even though itās a great school, not sure if the business majors are all that great here.
Hereās the placement report. I set to school of business. But it looks like it unset. You can adjust under the word Employment.
Did she apply to AU too ? Not quite as much in the thick of things.
Better outcomes (on average - thereās always outliers) than others. Nope. More expensive. Yep. But in DC if thatās where you want to be. Yep. Is it solid - Iām sure as is AU.
Donāt forget, many do semesters in DCā¦mine did. Many schools have programs. Others partner with AU. So thatās another possibility although it might impact course flow.
No, she didnāt apply to AU. Already went overboard with about 12 colleges I think⦠lol.
Already killing herself with her IB diploma essays and assessments, and these college essays have sucked the last drop of blood, so just barely surviving.
Thank you for sharing this report.
Question - my student just logged into the IU portal to print out info for me and saw a āHutton Admissions Petitionā that wasnāt in there originally. Has anyone else received this? They didnāt apply for honors college initially so Iām wondering why this would have appeared.
We saw that too when I logged in late last night hoping against hope for the school to magically change from pre-business to Kelley⦠lolā¦
Two easy essays, DD submitted them this morning.
I believe the EA deadline to apply has passed, so now one can petition until March/April (not sure).
