I think your son already met the criteria. If I am not mistaken, Kelley has the highest direct admit requirement and it is 3.8 and 1370 SAT. Anyways, always refer to their website to make sure. Good luck.
I recently called Kelley to ask for a student, and they said that a 97% would equate to a 3.8, so according the single verbal response I got, your DS would not qualifyā¦but he should call and ask/clarify for himself.
Same situation.
We are in a similar situation. I called IU Admission and they said they convert 0-100 gpa scale to 4.0 scale. They take the cumulative grade listed on the transcript, so a 97% would equate to a 4.0. Does everything above 93% considered 4.0?
Not according to the person I talked to. They do not consider everything above a 93% to be a 4.0. The admissions rep told me that a 97% would be a 3.8.
Iām not saying my person was right and yours was wrong, only highlighting the need for the personal asking to verify. If it were my kid, I would send an email and getting it in writing.
All that said, the Kelley website is very clear that if you are in doubt, to submit the review request.
A petition is the right answer here. Just because Kelley or IUB says they consider it to be X GPA, does not mean they will accept it for auto admission criteria. There is no situation I would not submit a petition here. Even āin writingā doesnāt mean it says everything you need it to say. Verification is only as good as the question you ask and receive back.
Jefro is right you know
My son is an OOS applicant for Political Science. We are anxious to hear as well! Hopefully in November!
Does IU typically offer merit with acceptance or does it come later?
Yes
Sorry- Yes, it typically comes with acceptance?
It comes with admission yes or it comes later yes. There are initial awards and then a later scholarship app - they had planned to ditch GSA and SSA as it is/was confusing but thatās not an area I follow too much.
What are GSA and SSA?
Hello all, I applied to IU Bloomington Early action. Out of state student.

Want to go into Finance here. Iāll have to submit a review request for Kelley since I wont be a direct admit. Let me know what yall think!
Anyone want to discuss one of the essay prompts for the Hutton Honors program? Iām paraphrasing from what I remember⦠What question would you like to be asked in a scholarship interview and then in 500 words, why did you choose that question and how would you answer it?
- what would you do if someone gave you a bear cub
- How would you estimate the number of commercial flights in the air right now?
- When were you inadvertently insensitive to someone?
- What flavor ice cream would you be?
- Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
What do you think they are they looking for with these kind of questions?
My son went with the āWhat else would you like us to know about you?ā (paraphrasing). But I found the questions you mentioned above very interesting. I assume they are trying to learn something ānewā about the student and their personality.
We thought about that but felt like he would just be repeating what was in his activities list or CA personal statement.
Yes, donāt want to repeat. My sonās was a different spin.
Just to share some info we learned:
At a recent NACAC college fair, my student asked the IU admissions rep about the change to the Honors College admissions process for this admissions cycle.
Last year: Auto-admit to honors college was given for students with a 1500+ SAT AND a 4.0 GPA (required both, not either/or). Additional review and petition process was conducted for students without those stats.
This year: No auto-admit. Requires expressing interest in the honors college on the Common/IU App, and answering supplemental honors college questions and writing an essay. (Essay prompts have been posted above.)
The Admissions Officer said this change was made because in prior years, many high-stat students were being auto-admitted to the honors college, āmostly business students,ā but many students didnāt really care about being in the honors college. They liked the āprestigeā and liked having it on their resume, but they didnāt actually care much about being active or participatory members of the honors college community.
So this year, prospective students must express interest and do the additional work to show that they want to be part of the honors college, and discuss why. The AO also noted that admission to the university in general, and admission to the honors college, are completely separate processes and the two departments (Admissions Office vs. Honors) are siloed from each other. Obviously they coordinate eventually to notify students, but the AO specifically pointed out that the two decisions are made separately.
Thank you for the good intel! Did they convey anything about when decisions will start to go out?
