Any current/former UB students (or their parents) who have lived in Spaulding? D is assigned to a double with a single attached. I think it is in the health professsions llc. Any info, room size, number/size of windows, configuration, closet or wardrobe, would be helpful as I don’t see any descriptions/pics on the website. Also, what sort of activities, if any, are done specifically for the health llc residents? About how long does it take to get to the campus shuttle stop - is there only one for all of Ellicott? D has a knee injury, so probably won’t be able to walk to class for awhile:(

Thanks!

My D was in Ellicott last year, but Richmond not Spaulding, and not a halth professions student, so I can’t help with those Qs. However, I do know that there are several bus stops at the Ellicott complex, so I don’t think your D will have too far to walk. Sorry to hear about her knee injury…

Thanks o-mom…life with 2 skaters racks up alot of PT hours!

When you walk into this type of room, there is a “common area” where wardrobes/closets are and excess things will be stored. I have seen creative things done in these spaces, but normally it is used as a closet area. Then there are two doors, one leads to a single with one window, the other to a double with two windows. The size/shape of the rooms depend on where in Spaulding she is living.

The learning community that she is in will most likely have tutoring available, and maybe some other activities. In my opinion, the main purpose of these communities has little to do with services offered by UB, but rather they allow students to form study groups, make new friends, find motivation from other students, etc.

The main bus stop in Ellicott is relatively centrally located in the tunnel (that runs underneath the whole Ellicott complex) right outside of the food court. Unfortunately, Spaulding and Wilkeson (both freshman dorms) are probably the furthest away from the bus stop. As for the bus schedule, The bus from Ellicott to north campus usually comes every 5 minutes on the weekday mornings/afternoons then less frequently at night. On weekends the busses come pretty infrequently… maybe every 1/2 hour.

There are also smaller busses that go throughout north campus that have their own schedules. The “red line” goes from ellicott to alumni to baird hall to capen library, etc, etc, and then back to Ellicott. These busses have separate schedules that will be posted at the bus stops.

Hope that helps… I think I just typed more than I wrote for my last US history term paper.

Thanks, redx, sounds like the entry area is similar to the ones we saw in the Wilkeson dorm. I’ll pass that along to D and she’ll have to figure out the bus thing when she gets there…in time for that early AM Monday class!
