informal rush UVA

I am currently a first year at UVA and I didn’t get a chance to rush this year but I want to next year. Should I do informal or formal? And if I should do informal what sororities usually participate in it? Since I have heard that is usually only 3 or 4.

This winter, most all of the sororities met their quotas. (I believe only one did not meet quota; there were more girls going through rush than in years past so that had something to do with it.) I’m uncertain how many will actually participate in fall rush; however, my guess is 3 at most. I would suggest you consider going through formal rush next winter. You will have the opportunity to meet girls in all of the sororities to see which ones you have the best connection. Good luck!

Since I will be a second year next year won’t it be harder for me to get a bid since i’ll be older?

Recruitment at UVa is competitive regardless of your class status. There are simply many more girls going through than there are spots. Do not be dissuaded, though, because the process in and of itself is a great opportunity to meet many new girls and can be enjoyable. It can possibly be more difficult if you’re a second year, but there are typically a few spots set aside in most srats for second years. The secret to a successful recruitment experience is to go in with a very open mind, don’t get your heart set on any particular sorority, look for the good attributes in each group, and understand that throughout the cuts, it only takes one bid in the end. Good luck! ;)
