I did a search and the previous Instagram thread has been closed.
I was never an Instagram user until Covid. I had an account but didn’t use it. I’m more of a follower and I find myself checking it several times a day.
I stick mostly to cooking and baking. I also found a mother and daughter who live in Italy who I love. I was supposed to be going to Italy in October so I’m enjoying their daily posts. They share travel and food.
Anyone else care to share how they use Instagram.
I use it for family and to keep up with some hobbies that I follow, including a couple of sports teams. I also have some friends who are really good photographers, and I enjoy their IG posts. I don’t post as much as I should- I don’t feel quite that creative usually.
I only use it to follow DD’s college so I can remind her to check things out. I also follow 3-4 brands I really like (TraderJoe’s and King Arthur flour) because they post new products and recipes and a local ice cream shop that changes flavors weekly. I have exactly ZERO followers, have never posted anything, and don’t follow family or friends. I am really boring!
My feed is all National Parks and Strength Training.
I LOVE IG!
I follow a lot of dog stuff, cooking, travel, sports and lots of friend and local businesses. I rarely post. Would love to hear specific recommendations on who/what everyone follows .
I use it to follow celebrities and influencers.
I actually like Instagram more than FB. I like that is is more about the visual, less about the comments. From what I see, RARELY about any drama. Amen!
I myself post more on Instagram than FB. I think my friends are more selective on Insta and that’s probably why.
I follow lots of food accounts, home decor, some celebs, plenty of real life friends, second hand shops in my area, influencer moms who usually have a special talent like cooking or decorating. Some politicians and some organizations that I support. My kids.
Checking how many people I follow (not that #"s matter…) - 313!
I also like to search for # places. If you have a favorite vacation spot you can search for it under “places” and see photos from that place.
I mainly follow National Geographic, Nat Geo Travel, Dogs Working From Home, and a few family members.
I rarely post.
Regarding posting…
I post places I’m at, funny things I see, my baking results (I’ve had a hashtag during COVID #whenhomeIbake), garden photos, family pics out and about.
I also follow my favorite vacation places. I forgot about that.
I recently joined but can’t figure out how to see comments that have been made in relation to pictures I’ve looked at?
My feed is entirely children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It’s my happy place.
My kids & their spouses are still on Facebook, but their real activity is on Instagram and I’ve become that way as well. It’s where I share more pictures of granddaughters, although I share fewer than 15 a year. I follow royal family accounts, gocleanco’s account (Canadian cleaning company that has gained 1M followers since pandemic started), traderjoe’s list, Ina Garten, Mary Engelbreit and my closest friends. I love Instagram - agree with @my3girls that it is a happy place.
@sevmom, comments should be under the “post” - the words that the person put under their picture. Often for your average person there won’t be any comments. Comments are much less of a thing than FB. Now if you’re a celebrity there will be lots of comments! To see those just tap “Viewl all ____ comments” Tap those actual words.
Thanks @abasket, I’ve tried that but the comments don’t load. But, I just started and kind of picked Britney Spears fairly randomly to follow. So, I’m hoping now that it might just be a matter of the many comments she gets taking forever to load.
I only follow one account, but I regularly view quite a few accounts. I know a lot of artists, and they all use Instagram. Checking out their work is what I use Instagram for.
Good thread, as am trying to figure out if I want to use it a bit more. I follow cats, my Ds new cat and my S and DIL’s cat. Then there is my niece’s artwork in Australia, my D’s wedding photographer, a local photographer and some of the photographers from National Geographic Live who have come to my city. I love photography, and seeing photos from all sorts of sources. But words and stories give meaning, and I still find more words on FB and here on CC. I have posted about two photos, ever.
I appreciate the sentiment above about Instagram being a happy place. My Ds cat and her creative photos of him have become a pleasant routine.
I started just to follow my kids who shifted from FB to IG. Over time, I’ve followed a few celebrities, friends, friends’ kids and gocleanco too. Gocleanco is pretty amazing! What I’ve discovered is that I really don’t enjoy the celebrities and keep meaning to unfollow them. Maybe I’ll do that today. I’ve never posted.
I’m surprised at how much I like the Instagram stories. It took me awhile to figure out they disappeared. I don’t follow political people but I do like seeing the posts the younger generation in my family post about issues that are meaningful to them. I don’t follow celebrities but I do follow several cookbook writers.
My D and DIL post on Instagram but not so much on Facebook. I also follow the companies my son and DIL work for.
Right now I’m loving a young Italian /American woman as she travels to different parts of Italy. It’s making me rethink the trip I had originally planned. She is sminchilli if anyone is interested.
I’m going to look into gocleanco.
@sevmom , I think that users can disable comments on their posts, and if you are only looking at one, high profile account (Britney), chances are high that that’s what’s happened there and why you don’t see any comments.
I follow my kids’ colleges, my kids, some stores (Aldi), some pet accounts (hunger4words) and my latest favorite is Tanksgoodnews. I don’t really post any more, I’ve posted maybe 10 times in the past 3 years.
