I thought of spice rubs right away too. I have a couple from Fresh Market that I use all the time - on fish, pork, chicken, potatoes, etc.

There is actually a Cabela’s very near us (and him!)

I really like the spice rubs idea! He does cook the fish and does a great job at it. Hmm…anyone can recommend what/where I might find rubs good for fish (I don’t cook it) He catches/cooks lots of walleye (pickeral), steelhead, salmon…

I wish someone would give me venison!

Love this thread! It is so timely with great and new suggestions. We had a friend who hunted deer and loved his venison dinners that he would cook for us. Just ordered some Indian spices to send to a friend for Christmas.

I just spent about 1/2 hour in a local Indian market. The odors were heavenly, the owner was also cooking and this added to the fragrance. The selection was wonderful and the spices were EXTREMELY reasonable. I asked if they will ship and they said that they do. Their website is nothing to speak of, you may want to talk or email them for specific items. They were lovely to deal with. Indianfoodandspice.com.

My Grandma’s of New England makes the best coffee cake in the universe. Once I put a little rum on it. It is amazing. It freezes beautifully and stays moist for days when thawed. i can now buy it locally at Harringtons. Yum! Not cheap but worth every penny.

If you are considering ordering from Ducktrap, I recommend the smoked cold water shrimp. They are very small, very tender, and delicious. A great hors d’oeuvres, no work involved! Just put out a bowl and some toothpicks. :)

We gave Grandma’s of New England coffee cakes and Hula Girl coffee to all the neighbors last year; glad to hear others love it, too. I just ordered some organic citrus from Matt’s in Florida for Christmas arrival, and some honeybells from Hale’s for mid-January.
