My daughter is interested in the International Business program at Memorial University. Her composite score on the ACT is 27. Math is what brought her score down because that area is most heavily affected by her dyslexia in timed situations.
I have emailed the school to ask about what they are looking for on transcripts and get information about what they want see for her senior year as a homeschooled student.
Any information about Memorial would be helpful. We have the brochure they sent in the mail.
@awintx , I’m afraid that I can’t offer any information on Memorial. I have lived in Canada for over 40 years and have 5 Ds so know hundreds of kids but not a one who has gone to Memorial. Is there some particular reason your D is interested in attending a school in NF? It is likely populated almost exclusively by local kids and perhaps some from bordering provinces. There are many excellent universities in Canada but Memorial wouldn’t be at the top of anyone’s list, in my opinion, for business.
Do your D want to work in natural resources? (oil, mines, forestry to a lesser extent) Because finding jobs in NL after graduation will be heavily based on natural resources.
But I can tell you this much: Memorial would not reject a student with a 27 ACT, as long that your D’s record is equivalent to 3.0+. As for homeschooled students, usually ACT scores will have a greater weight.
I understand that Memorial is cost-effective compared to other US colleges (COA is ~$CA20k, which translate to about ~$US15k at current exchange rates) however.
