Hello everyone, I want to get enrolled in the CAP21 Summer Pre-College Program, but the information on the site is quite vague. I live in Peru right now. Can an international student apply to the program? Moreover, I heard they offer early admission to NYU Tisch of Art. Is that still the case right now? NYU is my dream college and I want to study performing arts. I don’t quite understand the difference between Tisch of Arts and Steinhardt. Can someone help me decide which is the best for me? My dream is to become a sing-songwriter and a performer.

While I am not familiar with the summer programs I would think that an international student that meets the criteria could apply.
Yes, Tisch does have an early decision option. To do this you must have all of your auditions, and applications in early and then you are given a decision by December. Remember, If you are accepted early decision then you can’t accept anywhere else-it is legally binding at that point to attend NYU/Tisch. The main difference that I see between Steinhardt and Tisch is that in Tisch there is more emphasis on acting, then dance and singing. In Steinhardt the emphasis is on singing, then dance and acting. There is also the Clive Davis school of recorded music and you might want to look into that. My D friend wants to be a songwriter/singer and that is where he goes.

tutu already answered the questions. I just want to follow up and say my D had a roommate one year at NYU who was from London who wanted to be a singer/songwriter/musician and was in Clive Davis School of Recorded Music but found it focused mostly on the recording arts and not performance and so she switched into Steinhardt to study piano and composition.

Second, my D want to NYU for musical theater (at the time, her studio was CAP21). She is a singer/songwriter (among other things including performing in musicals) and is pursuing that career as well including has a CD of original songs and performs weekly in gigs in venues in NYC as a singer/songwriter. So, even though she trained in MT, she is also pursuing the singer/songwriter field and she is not the only MT alum from Tisch doing so! In fact, one of her best friends who is a Tisch alum and has played a lead on Broadway as well as on a National Tour, just put out an album of original songs and a video from her CD release concert that my D attended (they perform often together), just went viral and many in the country will know now this very talented young woman.

First, no legal issues are involved; ED creates an honor-system agreement, with possible consequences in some cases for reneging, but there is much discussion about the practical consequences, if any.

Second, if financial aid is involved, the commitment begins when you accept the school’s ED financial aid offer, not before that. If the offer is insufficient to support attendance (unfortunately common at NYU), you simply decline the offer and apply elsewhere RD.
