International Student from South Asia

Hello everyone !

I am completing my A levels this year and will be applying to US universities for the Fall of 2012. I already gave SAT on last December and scored 2130 but I can raise my score even higher.I also gave SAT II and scored 800 in Maths IIC and 700 in Bio and Phy.I am currently President of School Science Club and Music Club and have many awards in various music competition. My question to CCers is:

I hear that international students must be focused on a single “spike”…what do people mean by that?

I am planning to apply to Ivy league Duke U Chicago Stanford Rice etc universities. What do these top universities want from international students?

I hear GPA and course load is very important for US students. How are the A Level course load evaluated?

For international students are class rank and teacher recommendations evaluated with same/ greater/lesser degree as compared to US students?

Should I focus my application with my focus for science and music or should I diversify to show my other interests such as political science and various other stuffs?

Does international/national level awards give you a boost in admission? I hear IMOs are given a lot of credit…does similar accomplishment in music will be given consideration?

Lastly what factors are more important in judging international students?

Sorry to badger you all with all this reading
Hoping to hear from you all! :D

Forgive the grammar errors wasn’t looking at the screen while typing :P

BUMP
Anyone!

1.) Must have one great aspect (E.g: a math spike by getting IMO)
2.) not sure
3.) It varies but it is very important, I’d say 3.9+ is pretty good (UW)
4.)I would guess less
5.)Do whatever you like
6.)Yes
7.)How they adapt to US, ec’s, their courses, their socialness in the new environment, etc

@YannoMe:

Thanks a lot …I hope to build the upward spike through my career in science and music
