Hello everyone,
I come from France and with my English teacher we’ve considered the opportunity to study abroad (i.e. in an Anglophone country). Of course there are many colleges in U.S. and in U.K. and it’s kind of a dream (in my opinion) to study in U.S…
I love mathematics and I like physics too, I also know a bit of programming languages (especially Python and a few of Java) and if I can spend a whole day solving a single (hard) problem I can do it even if I’ll angry by the time (I gave up only if there’s a big wall that stop you immediately and there’s nothing else to go).
Well, I know a few colleges in U.S. and U.K. (you know, Princeton, Berkeley, M.I.T., Oxford, Cambridge ; the well-known in fact) and I wounder about what schools seem the best for admission in term of math and physics. Because a lot of colleges quoted above are also known for their restrictive and selective admissions and I’m not sure if I’ll get a sufficient good score at SAT (actually I don’t really know where I’ll be compared to the average score which is ~1050/1100. I don’t really panic for Math exam but I worry about Reading (I think of some strategies like putting names of people, some of their descriptions and what happened) and I’m quit slow both reading fast and understanding English). In fact the good score is rather to diminish the scholar costs than showing how good I am.
I think going in these countries will be helpful for me since over there I can improve English and also work with students that love math and physics (and also who come from different countries). Then, the U.S. are known for there wide biodiversity (I mean in nature) that I like because I don’t wish to study in big cities, I prefer calm and nature.
Moreover a large part of the U.S. schools are famous around the world notably for their “deep” focus in many (school) subjects and they offer many ways for students to improve themselves quickly (because I don’t really want to stay in a classroom with a teacher that speaks one hour of a subject that I know by heart or good enough as in heterogeneous classes). Also, I can teach some math to students who want event if I’m quite shy and solitary.
So I ask you some advice either on which college I should take or where to go (it may be outside U.S.like in Scotland where it’s “free” like in France).
Thank you for reading this post,
Regards,
Adrien.
