internationals have to apply to more schools?

than its counterpart US applicants?? I’ve heard this officially from the Harvey Mudd admission officer (through talking on the phone) that international pool is much more competitive, so you’ll have to apply to more schools as an international student? is this really true?

if so, how many schools are YOU applying to ensure your variety of choices?

worried

bump! please, i know a lot of you are internationals (well, yeah.) so help me out…pretty please?

I have no idea as to how your conversation went, but guidance counselors at international schools usually recommend that you divide you college choices into reach, probable and safety. Reach being your dream schools, probable being schools with reasonable chance of admission, and safety being schools where you will be assured admission. And so 2-3 of each category would be the norm.

I realized that, nomadmom, but the semi-exact wordings of the admissions officer at Harvey Mudd was: (i can’t remember exact wordings, conversation from about 3 weeks ago)

“I suggest applying to many colleges, because you will be placed in the international pool, which is more competitive than U.S pool. YOu want to make sure that you hvae choices at the end.”

I have no idea what he means but the norm for students in international schools is ten…spread over the three categories. But if one has the time and money to spare…perhaps more is better…

maybe…i have 12 schools on my list so far, 6 of them being reaches…:S wish me luck.

any other comments?

Just make sure you also want to go to those safety colleges. Good luck.

Depends if you can get fee waivers for your applications. If you can then you can go ahead and apply to 15-20 schools (Solely upto you). A friend of mine got altetr from the counsellor which got his fee waived, and so he applied to 18 schools.

Anyway, nomadmom is correct. Do divide your list equally in safety, reach and match. Your safeties will again depend on how much you can afford. There’s no point really in applying to many safety schools which wont give aid and you cant afford tution otherwise.
