interpret the song lyrics above you!

let’s play a game where we interpret the song lyrics above us. the interpretation must be at least one paragraph. no links, just list the song title - author. i’ll start.

carmen - lana del rey

I think this would be a lot easier if instead of having to interpret the entire lyrics, which requires one to listen to the entire song to get the rhythm and style, we instead provide snippets of lyrics that we found particularly poignant, then we interpret that.

Catsby’s song:
Darling, darling, doesn’t have a problem
Lying to herself cause her liquor’s top shelf
It’s alarming honestly how charming she can be
Fooling everyone, telling them she’s having fun

She says, "You don’t want to be like me
Don’t wanna see all the things I’ve seen
I’m dying, I’m dying
She says, "You don’t want to get this way
Famous, and dumb at an early age
Lying, I’m lying

The boys, the girls, they all like Carmen
She gives them butterflies, bats her cartoon eyes
She laughs like God, her mind’s like a diamond
Audiotune lies, she’s still shining
Like lightning, white lightning

Carmen, carmen, staying up till morning
Only seventeen, but she walks the streets so mean
It’s alarming truly how disarming you can be
Eating soft ice cream, Coney Island queen

She says, "You don’t want to be like me
Looking for fun, getting high for free
I’m dying, I’m dying
She says, "You don’t want to get this way
Street walking at night, and a star by day
It’s tiring, tiring

The boys, the girls, they all like Carmen
She gives them butterflies, bats her cartoon eyes
She laughs like God, her mind’s like a diamond
Audiotune lies, she’s still shining
Like lightning, white lightning

Baby’s all dressed up with nowhere to go
That’s the little story of the girl you know
Relying on the kindness of strangers
Trying cherry knots similing, doing party favours
Put your red dress on, put your lipstick on
Sing your song, song, now the camera’s on
And you’re alive again

Mon amour, je sais que tu m’aimes aussi

The boys, the girls, they all like Carmen
She gives them butterflies, bats her cartoon eyes
She laughs like God, her mind’s like a diamond
Audiotune lies, she’s still shining
Like lightning, white lightning

Like lightning, white lightning…

Darling, darling, doesn’t have a problem
Lying to herself cause her liquor’s top shelf

**interpretation:
Like all of Lana Del Ray’s music, this is simply suicide music. It talks about a high-living girl, lost in NYC who has falled into the abyss of partying and city life attractions. The french is there to be cool. I doubt most people understand it.

Why even listen to music in a language you can’t understand fully?

Song is okay because Lana Del Ray is pretty hot.**

Mine:
f(x) - Beautiful Stranger

Lyrics translated from korean so any grammatical mistakes are due to the translating process.

It’s just another story, I fell in love with a foreigner
Yeah and it’s all about me, how can I make you understand me?
That black shadow far away, if I can meet you, I will run thousands of kilometers
Haha the gun shot in my heart goes bang
Let’s go, there is a race right now toward you

Beautiful Stranger, I’ve fallen into your big eyes
To the mysterious feeling, the language, I open my heart
Beautiful stranger, people say that you’re dangerous
They don’t try to see the you that I see, no

The stories in the deep silences
You came from a different image, a different world
When you look at me as you extend your long hands
Take me to the place where you are

Uhohuhohoh Beautiful Stranger X3
Uhohuhohohoh

The kid called Curiosity is next to me
It calls me and follows me around form morning to night
The detachment of dreams and reality resemble you
It doesn’t matter, tell me everything, I’m ready
A strange person, a strange us, I want to get to know you, deep into that mask
No matter how heavy the door is
I’ll keep it open so that we can talk a little more

Beautiful stranger, an angel with a clear soul
The music that reaches through the tips of my hands, that music possesses my heart
Beautiful stranger, you are mysterious to them
They’re scared of you because they can’t understand, so they just push you away, no

The stories in the deep silences
You came from a different image, a different world
When you look at me as you extend your long hands
Take me to the place where you are

Uhohuhohoh Beautiful Stranger X3
Uhohuhohohoh

Hey There Don’t Be Shy, talk to me
Look into my eyes, beautiful stranger
Don’t hesitate, hold my hand, take me, beautiful stranger
You know that I’m different than them, look at my eyes, beautiful stranger
Just like this, just like right now, it’s not strange, no

You came as a colorless light from far away, with a different look from a different world
No matter where that is, I’m ready, take me to the place where you are

I recently got into Lana del Rey’s music so this post makes me happy. Although I’m going to agree with most other posters and say that most her music is about the high life and how it changes peopl.

It brings a smile to my face that more people are listening to Lana. She came out with more songs in the Paradise edition!

Is that a K-pop group, Muta? :)

But anyways, song interpretations really depend on a person’s current state of mind.
And I’m in a strange state right now, so… take this with a grain of salt.

Sounds like this person met a stranger and is now whipped.
I guess this person wants to know someone more because of the stranger-ness appeal.
Hmm.
This person’s psychological state is a little out of whack and this person needs some sort of support, and can only look to a stranger for it because a lot of times people find it easier to get their thoughts out to a stranger. Asking to know about the stranger is often times reflective upon the own person’s desire to be known-- some kind of reciprocation effect.

I feel like having us interpret whole songs is overwhelming.
So, here’s a snippet of a current song on my mind:

Band: Brand New
Song: I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light

The time has come for colds and overcoats.
We’re quiet on the ride,
we’re all just waiting to get home.
Another week away, my greatest fear.
I need the smell of summer,
I need its noises in my ears.
If looks could really kill,
then my profession would be staring.
Please know we do this cause we care
and not for the thrill.
Collect calls to home
to tell them that I realize
that everyone who lives will someday die
and die alone.

And we won’t let you win.
Though we’re down and out.
No we won’t let you win.
You win, you win, you win.

I wrote more postcards than hooks.
I read more maps than books.
Feel like every chance to leave
is another chance I should have took.
Every minute is a mile.
I’ve never felt so hollow.
I’m an old abandoned church with broken pews
and empty aisles.
My secrets for a buck.
Watch me as I cut myself wide open
on this stage. Yes, I am paid
to spill my guts. I won’t see home till spring.
Oh, I would kill for the Atlantic,
but I am paid to make girls panic
while I sing.

Check out the actual song, if you’d like. Better with Jesse’s voice.
