Is 5 hours enough time to study for one test?

No hw. But a big test tomorrow.

Starting a 5 pm and planning to stop ataround 11

It depends. I rarely study for more than half an hour; my median is around 5 minutes. How much do you think you need to study?

Depends on what the test covers and the subject of the material… but I would say easily. I rarely spend that much time studying for a test unless it’s like a midterm.

Language: 1-2 hours
Math: 1-2 hours
History: 2-4 hours
Science: 1-4 hours

It depends.

What a stupid question. Obviously the amount of time you study depends on how much you already, the material being covered, and how important the test is - none of which you told us.

Word. 10char

5 hours sounds insane to me, but I don’t study…

That’s nothing. My max is 5 minutes.

Lol me too. 5 minute studying + salutatorian FTW! :]

You crazy people! Five minutes?! Whoaaa… lol

I spend the following:
IB Euro history (last year): 3-9 hours (depending on the scale)
Math: 2-5 hours (or until I get the concepts and enough practice)
Chem: 2 hours max (I fail chem tests because I don’t have enough patience to sit through more than 2 hours of focused studying)
IB World: 2 hours (the teacher is easy)
English: DON’T HAVE TESTS! HA! Well, on Internal Assessments and such, usually 2hours at most (IA’s = 15min presentations)
French: 1hour
Pysch: I don’t study XD
Physics: none (for the class)-48hours (That’s how I get my 4 on the AP Physics C without taking the AP class XD)

I think five hours is reasonable, but it depends on how much you are required to know, and how familiar you are with the concepts. And if you did your hw/paid attention in class (which I have a difficult time doing XD)

5 minute studying + salutatorian FTW! :]

5 minute studying + valedictorian ftw imo.

Lol, I’ll be val by the end of the semester, but didn’t want to say something that wasn’t true ATM. :]

also,

How is this even possible? Are there that many hours in a day? I don’t understand this… extended studying thing… um… lol.

Over a period of time, that is…

(Ex: The AP physics was done over a week)

I don’t like to study for tests on the last day (unless I’m good at the subject), because the more I cram, the more I forget XD

Although I wish I could extend time. Biological clock is screaming

Just curious: What are your definitions of studying? Especially hpa10/IV/llpitch?

I mean, my rare 30-min instances are spent rereading the assigned reading in classes like Bio that require a lot of memorization. I think that rereading counts as studying, but not reading. (If doing the assigned reading were to count, I’d technically have studied for a few of WHAP tests for like an hour… the times I bothered to read the textbook instead of just getting the outlines from the internet, lol.)

As for looking at notes/study sheets that the teachers hand out, I can’t think of any time I’ve done that for more than five minutes. Maybe ten for a French test that covered a broad range of vocabulary and history.

And the type of studying that is interactive… like doing practice problems or making flash cards… I can’t think of any instance where I’ve done that. o__O OH but I have taken notes on reading, occasionally.

And my max is 0.

Unfortunately, though, I’m not as smart as these people here and so instead of having straight A’s and being valedictorian with 5 minutes of studying, I have 2 C’s and a B right now. Partially because of subjective teacher grading, but meh, no elaborations here, it’s not like I care.

Okay, all of this is response to Poseur, and just a post for anyone else :]

I agree with this, and I never reread anything [possibly because I don’t have AP bio, lol I’ve heard lots about this class, plus I am not a fan of science, ergo I didn’t take the class]. So rereading doesn’t go toward my study-time, since I never do it. I do, though, read the assigned reading usually, but wouldn’t include this in “study” time - it’s just regular homework.

Yeah I usually skim over notes for about 30 seconds-5 minutes just to refresh my memory - I think people who “study” for a lot longer than that [1 hour +] are really learning the material for the first time as they “study.” Honestly, if you pay attention in class, you should NOT have to study that long. Unless you have a teacher that teaches absolutely nothing, I think studying extensively is ridiculous and verging on pointless.

My brief note-skimming is purely to get myself in the mindset of the class - I wouldn’t call it just “cramming” or whatever, trying to remember stuff for the test and then immediately forgetting it. I learn things in class, or when I do the homework, and any “studying” I do just gets my brain in the right “file cabinet” of knowledge, so to speak.

Lol, yeah I’ve never done that… oh wait, one time I did use somebody else’s notecards to go over a few kind of funny vocab words for AP Lit - but… that was also kind of pointless, since I knew the definitions the first time I went through the cards. I haven’t ever taken notes on reading though, unless maybe if it was a homework assignment, I guess.

For me, studying would include my note-skimming [I guess, although that’s not… “studying,” just kind of barely refreshing, lolol] and any time that I sit there thinking “wow I’m not ready for this test because I slept through class all week… wow… maybe I should ‘study.’ Wait I don’t really know how to study! o noz!” <lolol.

Really though. Studying? You guys have got to be kidding.

Homework counts as studying…■■■■■. You do the exact same thing as when you would study: read, write, (maybe) think…

if it isn’t studying, what is it, playing games?

No, it’s doing an actual assignment. When I have to turn it in for a grade, I usually do it.

@ Invoyable: You got straight A’s last year without ever doing your homework? O___O

@ IV: Danggg. That makes your already-amazing status as val even more impressive. (Although by posting that, I run the risk of people jumping all over me like “HOW IS NOT HAVING WORK ETHIC IMPRESSIVE?! ARE YOU SAYING THAT PEOPLE WHO PUT EFFORT INTO THEIR ENDEAVORS ARE LESS INTELLIGENT? WAH WAH WAH TRYING HARD WILL GET YOU FAR IN LIFE.” … Lol. Just had to get that out preemptively so no one else would beat me to it. -___- But yeah. I disagree with them. I think that natural ability > effort. ANYWAYS, congrats!)
