Is a Dorm Space Saver allowed in UVA Dorms?

Hey, so this upcoming school year I’ll be living in a single room at gooch/dillard. While shopping for dorm supplies, I saw these “dorm space saver shelves” at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and thought they would be useful to save space as the rooms are very small. Anyways, I was thinking about placing it at the foot of my bed or above the microwave and fridge. From what I’ve seen the rooms do have wall shelves, but I wanted to place my printer and small TV on it to avoid crowding the desk.

What I’m wondering is if they are allowed in these dorms? I’ve read the the First Year Housing FAQ and it doesn’t say anything about having this type of furniture but I wanted to make sure and I rather not bring it only to have my parents haul it back home.

Also, another question is if it was allowed, and I placed it at the foot of my bed, would that violate a fire safety regulation? Because the shelf would partially block the window with its legs. (The window is right next to the bed and i prefer to sleep with my face to a wall rather then a window so I plan on making the foot of the bed on the side of the window) .

Here’s what they look like if anyone is wondering

Shelves are not a fire code violation. You can’t put a shoe hanger on your door (because then the door can’t close) but otherwise no problem. I had those rolling cart type shelves and there was never any problem. The reason people bring things home is that they don’t fit. I think your shelves will fit. I’m not sure if G/D has the desk hutch but that worked out great for storing things as well. Here is a picture of one from the housing website
