Is anyone watching April?

OK, Ivys released results. Time for April. Is she waiting for Stanford?

The vet joked yesterday that he would try inducing labor with a taco: a romaine leaf and a carrot inside a tortilla.

She’s still munching away at the hay or whatever that is in her stall. Can’t imagine that if she were ready to go that she would have much of an appetite. Think the pain would take over. This is taking forever!!!

Is it taking too long or did they just hook us into watching too early? I’m thinking the latter.

I think they don’t know what they are doing and are reading each night on the internet on the zoo forums.

Ds1 was nine days late, and I had a long labor. I feel ya, April.

I hope this isn’t April fooling us: “The staff have been onsite with April all morning, Dr Tim was called and onsite within minutes. All observations, behavior, and predictions suggest a calf today, tonight - we would be shocked to get through the weekend without our newest addition.”

In my opinion the daily announcements are clickbait to get people to visit the site. Then they get more $ from Toys R US.

This is a for profit enterprise. They have USDA approval and are not accredited. USDA only requires one year of animal husbandry experience. That could be through a couple of internships or maintenance work at a similar facility. USDA mostly checks for things like how high the fences are and if a vet checks the animals annually.

There is a self described wolf center near me that is USDA certified. They breed wolf puppies for people to have their photos taken with them. What they don’t advertise is that once the puppies are grown they are killed and the pelts are sold.

Update is that she is in labor now

April’s fools’ joke?

I just clicked on and it’s saying live stream is down. :frowning:

Refresh your page, the live stream was down earlier this morning due to the wind and snow!

Thx.

My sister got me hooked and now I am checking a few times a day. Looking forward to seeing the new baby.

you know, its been so hard to tell she was really prego for me; partly because of her size and the angles of the camera. (looking down has a slimming effect!!) but i just checked the youtube site; she really does look huge and I HOPE it happens super soon. go april!

i’m just so surprised really that the they were off by 6+ weeks with this. it seems they would have had a better prediction window. although i know its different than with people

oh - has she had other calves before?

I believe I read that this is her fourth calf. She is fifteen years old.

Giraffes are pregnant 15 out of 20 months every year of their life after they are 5 or 6.
and the pregnancy can go 60 days past. Or so I have read.
This is her 4th. She is 15. In the wild she would die but in captivity she may live until 20.

i just signed up for text alerts for her. ive been watching her since february; but off and on lately. I dont want to miss this!

It’s a sunny day at Animal Adventure Park. I hope April will deliver today. I am spending way too much time watching her.
