My son was seriously ill in middle school and missed a lot of time due to the many surgeries he had to undergo. He has just completed his freshman year of highschool and had quite a few absences due to follow up doctor visits and there will be many more. He has maintained straight As despite all the missed time, and so I did not see the need to go and talk to the gc to explain his situation. Do you think that if his gc does not know about his past medical history she may consider all this missed time negatively when writing his recommendations for college?
My school puts students’ percent attendance on their transcripts, but not every school does. I would explain the situation to your GC anyway, because some adcoms may write it off as a “smart but lazy” situation.
Congratulations to your son on his straight As!
I would talk to the GC about the situation to make sure they understand what is going on.
It is much easier to get support in the future if they understand that there are medical issues.
