Is Baltimore safe to visit alone?

I’m still thinking about visiting JHU
since I have to go alone, I’m a little bit scared
not only b/c this is the first time ever visiting large city that’s across the continent by my self but also b/c Baltimore’s crime rate and the rumors I hear about it.

Is it safe to visit JHU alone?
I’m thinking about Open House meeting on 21st

Yes, of course it is. Take a cab from the airport to Homewood campus. The campus is very safe, as are the immediate surrounding areas. The places where tourists go (Inner Harbor for instance) are also very safe. Before you go wandering off by yourself, however, have someone point out the areas on a map that you should avoid

BTW, Baltimore is no more scary than LA. Like Baltimore, LA has bad areas you need to avoid and very nice, safe areas. Same idea.

As long as you don’t wander around at 2 a.m. in the morning in dark alleys, you’ll be fine.

jhu is the safest campus in the US, so stay there and you’ll be safe
