Is BOCES a good idea?

Recently I did a two week Summer Career Exploration Program for audio production offered by BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Educational Services). Before this program, I had a plan for my years of high school and I knew all the classes I wanted to take. After this program, I am interested in going to BOCES during my junior and senior year. Pursuing this path would mean that I couldn’t take all the classes I wanted to take and there’s no guarantee that the classes I would sign up for would even line up. I am currently going into my sophomore year, so I have a year to think about this decision. All my life, music has been extremely important to me, and if I pursue down the path for audio production it actually gives me career options. I would have to find a way to take pre-calc online as well because I can’t fit that into my schedule during my junior year. It would get pretty complicated so I don’t know if I should do BOCES or not.

My recommendation is to talk to your parents and your guidance counselor about this choice. It sounds like something you really want to do, and a fantastic opportunity; However, at the same time it would severely affect your high school experience (I’m not saying positive or negative, it would just have a big affect) and that could impact your college admissions later on.
The choice will in the end be yours, and I hope you choose the path you feel most comfortable going down.
