Is EA/ED a bad decision for intls needing fin aid?

so…I’ve been wondering for quite a while since I’ve heard very different opinions on this matter…is it safe for an intl requiring fin aid to apply early to an US university? …if you get admitted but with far less fin aid than need will you be able to drop out from the binding to that specific univ and apply RD?

i think they allow you to drop out if they cannot provide enough financial aid… but u really should check with your school cos the policy differs from school to school.

hmmm… ur an indian in romania? interesting

I don’t think you’ll have a problem applying ED/EA to schools which gve need-based aid…or the schools which have a non-binding EA policy

I would advise you not to count on dropping out of an ED admission in case you don’t get sufficient aid. Some colleges will still blacklist you and you would’nt get admission in other colleges in the US.

I applied ED to Williams (which is need-based) and had absolutely no problem. You could e-mail colleges and ask them specifically if there might be problems with aid if you apply ED…they’ll hopefully answer honestly. All the same, it would be best if you apply ED only to need-based aid schools

heh I don’t think she’s Indian…

Lakshmi is not a very common name abroad

yes but Lakshmi isn’t her name you see. However, I may be wrong.

lets get Lakshmi’s opinion about this…So Lakshmi, what do you think…what are the chances of your being Indian?:p

none :stuck_out_tongue: …no I’m not an indian…my name is Diana(and I’m 100% Romanian)…is just that I like the name of Lakshmi a lot  … many people have thought so far I really am an Indian … you should really tell me if using the name of Lakshmi offends anyone (Indinan of course) and …well shall make another account here :)

not offending…no. Its a nice name :)

huh…I started being worried because most(all) of the Indians that have seen my name so far have started asking me tons of questions about how and why I use this name and so on…if I’m not mistaking Lakhmi is a feminin ideal for women(am I right?)

Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of prosperity.

Incidentally, my mom’s name is Lakshmi :D.

I was the guy who said that ED is may not be such a good idea with some (even need-based/need-blind) colleges. Of course, I am biased on this issue because my experience, but I still hold that you are taking a huge emotional gamble when applying ED. If you get accepted, that’s just fine, but some colleges simply deffer almost all needy intels to the RD pool and if you get deferred, you just find yourself in application hell.

yes Bogand, but I also told you that I was going to prepare my applications for RD before I get my decision…so it’s not about the emotional state I’m concernerd…it’s about fin aid…there are a lot of people who say so many different things that I really don’t know what to believe…my main concern is about the bindind of ED/EA when not receiving the necessary fin aid…
