Is graduating early a problem to get into a UK uni? (American student)

I graduated from high school at the end of my junior year. I got a 3.8 GPA and a 2290 SAT score. I didn’t take AP classes (scheduling conflicts) but I did take 4 AP exams. I scored 5’s on all of them.

I mainly want to know if it’s a problem that I haven’t attended my senior year? I mostly wanted to graduated early to work (so I could earn money to go school). It’s not like I was a bad student or anything, so I don’t see why it would be an issue.

I also know that people may get conditional offers, but in my case I would just be accepted or rejected, correct?

I can’t see it being a problem if you meet their entry requirements. If you have already met them then you will be given an unconditional offer if accepted, yes.

One problem I think may arise is that Uk universities generally require 13 years of education before one can be admitted into a degree program. So I believe they may require you do attend a foundation year before beginning the program… :)

How old will you be on beginning a course of study at a UK uni?

Scottish students finish school at 17, so as long as you will be 17 you will have no problems anywhere in the UK. There will be a few students as young as you. They are used to accepting students from Scotland at this age.

If you are under 17 you may well have big problems as many universities will not let under 17s stay in their halls of residence (that is the same as US dorms) without a parent or guardian. So you may well be admitted (as Dionysus58 says, as long as you meet the entry requirements I am sure somewhere will admit you) but you might have big problems finding somewhere to live in your first year, unless you parents plan to come with you to the UK.

I am a Scot who went to an English uni (York) at 17. As a November baby, I would have been in the year below down south because of the different school cut off dates- a Scottish guy down stairs from me had his 18th birthday in February.

There are some English unis who state you have to be 18 before starting- usually says in the prospectus (showing my age that this was all before I’d ever used email).

Technically, you can go to uni in Scotland at 16- if you skip the 6th year of secondary but I think almost everyone these days stays on to get more highers or advanced highers and generally enjoy the last year of school. I don’t think the medical schools in Scotland let you in before 17 though due to maturity.

So- no you’ll be fine in the UK.

if anything, graduating early while keeping a similar or higher course load compared to your peers would look better.

Four AP exams might not be enough to get you into a top UK university depending on the subjects you took.
