My S is in his first year of HS but has 9 credits so when it comes to testing such as PSAT etc…is he a freshman or sophomore? From what I understand the grade level is determined by credits not years.
Usually high school is done by number of years (except in circumstances where it is clearly discussed with the school that the student will skip a grade) and college it is by credits.
Freshman.
Is he planning on graduating early or something?
I believe it is similar to college- while you may start as a sophomore credit wise, your degree may still take the standard four years.
I have never heard of getting graduating credits from testing though, so you might want to take up the question with his school.
^^^Except he will have his 24 credits needed to graduate by his 3rd year(or possibly after sophomore summer) so he has the option of graduating early if he chooses. My question is in regards to testing such as PSAT and ACT etc…what is he considered? They say they won’t count your PSAT score until your junior year so…?
@moscott I understand what you mean by the testing situation now. He should put freshman on the PSAT and such. If he chooses to graduate after only three years, it is mostly referred to as graduating as a junior.
This problem is addressed in this thread:
