<p>I have automatic admission to UT Austin (got my rankings today) and was wondering if I should apply to any other colleges. I’ve done a lot of research and concluded this was my best bet in terms of money and quality, so is there any point in applying elsewhere?</p>
<p>Also, kind of unrelated, does anybody know what to do if you have changed houses but have your old house registered to an sat testing waiver? I’m eligible to waive my admissions fee, but the waiver is registered to my old house.</p>
<p>If you are absolutely happy to attend UT, are assured of being admitted, and can afford it then you are fine. It’s a great school. Can’t help on the SAT waiver.</p>
<p>@GMTplus7 if you want a crappy major, then yes. The most popular majors (business and engineering) are really competitive so even with auto admit, not everybody gets in so people still have to try.</p>
<p>While UT is a GREAT university (congratulations on making top 7%! ) I would apply to at least one more university for financial reasons: you could get a merit scholarship elsewhere (how about UT Dallas McDermott Scholars?). In addition, if you can’t get into your major at UT, you could get into a major at another school.
Have you run the NPCs at different universities? Since you’re top 7% AND have a very low EFC, you’d probably qualify for a lot of financial aid from the “meet need” colleges - and UT often expects $10,000 even from EFC zero families so having a choice not just among universities, but among financial packages, makes the most sense.</p>
<p>If your first choice school has a 100% certain chance of admission, and is 100% certainly affordable, there may be no need to apply anywhere else.</p>
<p>But UT Austin may not necessarily be a sure admission to your major, if it is one that is more popular relative to capacity (e.g. engineering or business).</p>
<p>One of my friends was in a similar position. She had the automatic admission for UT as well and knew she didn’t want to go anywhere else, so she didn’t apply anywhere else. Why spend the time, effort, and money to apply other places if you’re sure that you will just end up going to UT anyways? </p>
<p>^Stacks13: how much financial aid fif your friend require? did she have to take on loans to attend UT or did her parents pay?
OP qualifies for fee waivers, which means that UT MAY be unaffordable; applying to UT <em>and</em> other schools (schools where OP’s stats give him/her a good shot at scholarships, schools that meet 100% need) would be safer. </p>

<p>If you are 100% assured of getting in, 100% sure it is where you want to go and 100 sure you can afford it then no absolute need to apply elsewhere. Just check with your guidance counselor and be certain you will be an auto admit to UT. If you want to apply to another couple of lower ranked TX state school as a “just in case” or to see if you get more money,that would probably be wise . Congratulations - great school.</p>
