Is it okay to have one W?

I am thinking about dropping one of my major class because I think I won’t be able to get an A for it. Is it okay to have one W even if I am aiming UCB and UCLA? Is there any disadvantage for having it?
Also, is it okay to use pass/non pass for GE? Or is it better to just stick to letter grade? I am not good at science, so I was thinking about changing two science GE classes into pass/non pass in the future.

What class is this? Do you need it for your future major? I got one W and it was for biology. Since meteorology doesn’t need biology I dropped it.

They won’t care about the W. Don’t worry.

It is sociology class and I am sociology major. It is one of the mandatory courses.

^ I got one C on intro to sociology!

It doesn’t make any difference if you’re planning to repeat it.

Is it okay for me to repeat it next winter or spring? Or is it better to repeat it on fall? I am going to apply in this fall

I would suggest fall. If you wait till spring they might interpret that the class was hard and you’re trying to slide it by. Re P/NP you can use it for IGETC. I don’t think you can use P/NP for Berkeley 7 course pattern, though. You need to check your major. Just remember only 14 transferable units can be P/NP.

What grade do you think you will get in it?

I was accepted to UC Berkeley (political economy) with 3 Ws as a transfer for Fall 2014 . Transferred to UCI instead and haven’t ever thought about it since. I dropped Yoga, Trigonometry, and Calc I. (ended up retaking trig and Calc and getting a B&C) 3.64 Cumulative w/ 70 transferrable units. I don’t think Ws are included though, from what I’ve heard they don’t even see them on the application.
