I don’t wear low cut shirts but I know you can’t wear them in high school. And I’m not going to an Ivy school. I think that’s kind of dumb, though. I never understood the whole spaghetti strap rule.

^ Tell me about it. My ex gf wore spaghetti straps once and Cornell almost suspended her for a week. Her parents had to threaten legal action. It was a fiasco.

What are spaghetti straps again?

Spaghetti used to keep your shirt on by strapping it over your shoulder, quite literally.

“I never understood the whole spaghetti strap rule.”

It’s because that extra inch of skin means a world of difference. Like the difference between just glancing at the girl in front of you and obsessively leering at the girl.

So, straps that are as skinny as spaghetti strands? Why is that not allowed to be worn? Doesn’t that just expose the shoulder blades? What’s so offensive about that?

Are you kidding? The shoulder blade is the most delicate part of the female body, if you let a guy see it completely, you’re practically as undateable as if you have a tattoo.

You would think college wouldn’t be so much like high school.

It’s stupid because at my school (high school), girls go around with low cut shirts showing off their boobs and no teacher cares. Yet when somebody wears a spaghatti strap, oh my god the world has gone mad.

Obviously the male teachers and lesbian teachers, of course, would rather see boobs than shoulders…

Well colleges still operate on archaic regulations and still hold outmoded sensibilities of decorum. You’d be surprised at the extent to which colleges care about your life’s minutiae. I’m afraid you can’t believe all the hype about “freedom” in college

I find it kind of weird, especially since they’re all adults. I can see if it is considered “offensive” or too “slutty”. Yet a simplistic piece of clothing such as a spaghetti strap is harmless.

^Yeah “adults” in the legal and social sense, but not adults to those hoary academic Gods, who dictate policy.

r0k, they’re making fun of you. Though there are exceptions, most schools don’t have a dress code short of the general societal expectation to show up wearing something. Spaghetti straps are fine at most schools.

I noticed that

I’d hardly say CailleBotte was making fun of you, he, I think, was just taking advantage of your naivety.

Haha I just think that dress codes for certain clothing items are stupid-- especially in college.

I had a classmate last year that honest to god looked like a hooker. I could not believe the things she came to class wearing, and the only word I can think of to describe her make up is garish. It was actually distracting. She turned out to be really sweet and funny and completely smarter than me, and probably not really a hooker. I wonder if she realizes what her first impression gives off.

I take it that you are the life of the party where ever you happen to be, Ema? :)

She gave me an excuse to use the word naivety, so that made my night or morning, whichever you prefer.

You should only wear a tank top if you have something to show off.
