is it safe to say that CC people are better than the average student appyling to UVA

is it safe to say that CC people are better than the average student appyling to UVA?

i think most people on CC are very driven and have high stats. they are on here obsessing over college admissions, so they obviously care a lot about their future.

That an understatement.
The average CC person thinks that a SAT II score beneath 800 is low.

Haha. Billhpike’s statement is so true. I don’t think the UVA messageboard is reflective of the applicant pool. Just go and look at the thread where people talk about the colleges they applied to. The average student doesn’t apply to four ivy leagues and five other top 20 schools. The people in these forums freaking out are probably the best of the best and have no reason to be this crazy over college. I know UVA is a great school, with great students who have great statistics, but, I believe that the students reflected in this forum are definitely on the higher end of applicants.

well-

yes and no. there are a lot of students who will apply with lesser stats than shown on this board. but then again - maybe 100 people at most post on uva’s board? - and not all of them get in. there are around 16000 applicants. I think there are a lot of people applying to uva who have great stats, but there are also more average students.

I dont think that “just the average student” would apply to UVA in the first place. Now your definition of average might differ. Also what is your definition of “CC people.” If replying to this post or spending numerous hours on this site makes me one, then I dont think its safe to say that I am better than the person ranked 2nd in my class, with awesome EC’s but who however spends all his time playing volleyball than on CC

Yes, the average CC poster is better than the average applicant to UVA. I’d imagine that the average SAT score around here is around 1400 and the average class rank is probably top 5%. The average applicant to UVA is certainly worse than that.

Sure there are a ton of kids who are very smart who don’t come on these boards. In general though, I think the people on this site have above average stats. The fact that the Ivy League and top 20 boards receive much more traffic than any other school should be an indicator of that. Sure there are people with stats lower than average for accepted students, but on a whole, CC people have high stats. Does every person on CC get into top 20 schools? No. Does everyone get into ivy league schools? Certainly not. But in my opinion, if you took the number of people on these boards who got in vs. those who didn’t, the percentage of acceptances would be higher than the actual percent accepted.

i meant the average applicant to uva - not the average american student. C is average if you recall, something that this board thinks as the unthinkable. everyone who seriously applies to uva has atleast a A- average - so yes people have great grades, but on the greater whole - the people who post chances threads on this website are unconfident superstars. But like I said, people at UVa are all well qualified - there are more superstars out there that don’t post on CC…probably because they’re too busy doing something more important.

Good point, jags. My S has never been on CC…and that’s probably true of lots of great kids. He is too busy and has enough self-confidence not to worry about it. I like to think that’s the case with lots of kids who apply to UVA. I get the feeling it’s a pretty well-rounded bunch.

Here’s my shameless plug for cc’ers in response to the last statement:

I’d just like to say that I don’t come on cc for a self-confidence boost, but that it’s interesting to talk to people going through the same process at the same time. While some might have confidence issues or need a compliment on their stats, many of us just want to see how others are faring in such a crude admissions process.

That is all. I’ll step down off my soapbox now.

comflsomh,

i didn’t mean everyone on this website…but a vast majority are. just look at names of posts…“difference between 3.69 and 3.7” or names of people such as “ivyleagueorbust”. pleaseee.

oh yeah, I completely agree with you. studious mom was who I was talking about.

I agree too comflsomh. And I don’t come on here a lot because I’m not busy and have a ton of time on my hands. I leave my house very early in the morning and get home almost every night after 9 pm due to extracurricular commitments (it is 9:20 right now and I just got home about 10 min ago). I just need a short break before jumping into homework and like to come on here during homework breaks throughout the night.
