Is it true that Ivy League schools offer the same education as "common" universities?

^Tony Blair (there’s no e)

Haha, I was just about to fix that too.

Has Blair mentioned how long he plans to teach there and what he’s planning to teach?

None of that info has been released yet, but i believe his area of teaching interest deals with faith and globalization. [Obviously,] it is likely to be full of international relations majors.

[I also wanted to add to my last post, that the same position Tony Blair is filling was filled in prior years by individuals such as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and one of my favorite English composers, Ralph Vaughan Williams]

rd31, in your opinion, how does the average yalie perceive the average common school student?

Noucat, most of us at Yale have many friends who did not go to elite schools. We think it’s unfortunate that elite schools (which I do think provide some of the best educations available) can’t accept more students. Yalies don’t perceive anyone as “inferior” (except for maybe Harvard, haha). Yale kids in general are pretty humble, down to earth, and very grateful for having the opportunity to study at Yale. We also respect the students who choose other schools.

I personally feel that admission to elite schools is rather random at times because everyone is so qualified these days. This is why I support Yale’s plan to increase its class enrollment by about 200 kids (of course they will hire more faculty and build more accommodations). Often times, the kids who attend the “common” school are just as qualified as those attending elite schools; it’s just that the randomness didn’t work in their favor for that particular admissions cycle.

It’s not that you can’t get a great education at a common school. I have just observed that elite schools give many extra valuable opportunities because of their immense wealth and resources.

I can tell you from my own experience that many of the kids who went to the school I went to had a tendency to be the exact opposite. Feelings of inferiority, no doubt.
