Is it true that Remediation courses in Florida are optional??

Im applying to colleges in Florida over the summer and I heard that the remediation courses are optional and I wanted to know is it true or not?? :-<

If I’m not mistaken, the Optional Remedial noncredit remedial course requirement is targeted at Florida State Colleges (Community Colleges). This will allow an incoming freshman to forego Remeidal Courses and start their College Courses from day one, which would allow these students to complete the Associates degree “faster” and reduce the risk of students dropping out of College all together.

Personally, I think it is a bad idea, especially for students that are required to complete more advanced math courses beyond College Algebra or majors which are math intensive. The fact that it is optional will see most students who need such remedial courses opting-out of these courses and, probably, hasten their departure from these State Colleges (Higher Drop Out rates). Going from memory, I think over 70% of Florida bound State College students have to take at least one remedial course, which can add anywhere from one semester, to as high as four semesters at these institutions.

As a High School junior, I’m curious why you are asking about this subject at this stage of the game?

The reason why I asked this question when I was a junior because. I was failing math class at first ( I went to a bad school) and my teachers were trying to scare me saying that if I dont pass the math class, Florida colleges will make me take math 101 or remedial my freshman year of college. But I called some of the colleges and asked them about they told me its was not true. I am very ocd about my grades lol, but thank you so much for your response and sorry that I responded so late.
