Is It Worth It?

I have the opportunity to double-up on Geometry and Algebra 2 (I’m a freshman), but I’d have to drop a class I didn’t even want to take in the first place in the middle of the semester, Foundations of Art. I’m not entirely sure if this is true, but I think dropping a class at this point would have a negative impact on my GPA and put an F on my transcript. If it turns out that I can’t get around this, is it worth it?

Ask your guidance counselor. If it puts an F on your transcript, don’t do it. I don’t know how your school’s math classes work, but I was able to double up on Algebra 2 and Pre-Calc as a sophomore. If that’s possible for you, do that or something similar next year.

No, I can’t double up on Algebra II and Adv. Math (pre-calc equivalent at my school). If I’m not able to double-up on it without it putting an F on my transcript, I think I’ll take the class over the summer or self-study it and test out.

I know that at my school it will show up on your transcript that you dropped a class and what grade you had in it at the time you dropped it IF you drop it after the first 5 weeks of school. It doesn’t look good to have this on your transcript.
Your school may do it differently! I’d ask your guidance (college if you have one) counselor.

After 2 weeks at my school if you drop it goes on the transcript as a WF and is calculated into the GPA as a F. If your school is anything like that then DON’T do it. One extra year in math while nice is not necessary, plus like you said you can also take it over the summer. Take art, colleges like to see that too. But before you do anything talk to the person with the most knowledge on this topic; your counselor.
