is my college list too risky?

oh well, a bit too late to apply to matches now. and there’s no way i’m going to my state school, so hopefully i’ll get into one of my 7 schools that i applied to :

~reaches
MIT
harvard
yale
princeton
stanford

~semi reaches/matches
caltech
columbia

yeah, i think so

um, i dont know your stats, but that list would be very risky for anyone. You should really apply to safeties, some colleges are still taking apps. For example, Reed (extended deadline), Arizona State, Many schools with rolling decisions, Marlboro College.

thanks for the advice…but i really don’t want to go to Reed or Arizona State or Marlboro College…:O

Not to worry, Harvard has a policy few know about. If you call the Dean of Admission and explain you’ve been rejected by all of their peer institutions, they accept you on the spot.

lol. extremely risky. If you don’t have a 2300+ or something else as decent I think you’re making a mistake

any matches that are more on the level of the colleges that i’ve listed…

Applying to all of the top colleges…no, not risky at all.

Ok. Here’s the deal. The point of a safety(not match…safety, which YOU DO NOT HAVE) is that YOU WILL GET IN. There are other schools “on the level” you are applying to, but many of their deadlines have passed AND they may not be safeties. This late in the game you will have to make due with what you have. Like I said, many colleges have rolling deadlines. I beleive Wisconsin- Madison is still taking apps.

And btw, Reed is very selective and a good school. What are your stats?

here is my stats profile
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profiles/member_stat_view.html?user_id=227348

That’s a very impressive list! Are you a ■■■■■? @ hmom5: Is that really true? If you were to supposedly get rejected everywhere…they would accept you? I hope that doen’t spread around.lol.

■■■■■
ha first author in nature…sure

lol i am not a ■■■■■…serious

I also think you are ■■■■■■■■, but if not…

Stats are exceptional, but ECs are sort of all over the place.

Have your gotten major tennis or debate awards? Varisty? I am on the debate team and if your were truly dedicated (national and state awards, summer institutes), it would be difficult if not impossible for you to do all those other ECs. Admissions people know this. The same applies to tennis. You have nice awards for math/science, but dont seem to show dedication to tennis or debate.

Volunteer hours are very average/below average. Again, no passion.

how rigorous is your schedule

lol no i am only on varsity tennis…nothing better. and nothing major in debate either. my main focus is math and science. like i took nice math classes…graph theory, discrete math, linear algebra, diffyq, multi

also took abstract algebra online but i didn’t bother finishing it so it’ll be an F but i’m not reporting that to my schools

and i took ap physics, chemistry, biology, statistics…5s on all

weaker in the humanities

and i quit volunteering because it was boring

i am not going to say any more about my paper because then i would be easily identifiable

@hmom5: Harvard would actually do that if you explain to the dean that you were rejected from all of its peer schools? I mean, there are reasons why people get rejected from the Ivies…unless there is more about the policy that needs to be elaborated on.

um…i’m pretty sure hmom was joking.

Even if you are an exceptional student with outstanding EC’s, that list is risky. How about applying to a couple of rolling admissions schools?

btw i also have a history of mental illness and had to leave school for a year because i tried to kill myself several times…will this count against my applications? i think my teachers know
