Yes, it’s very rare because Myanmar has been closed off for so long.
Here’s Harvard:

Here’s Yale (it’s listed as Burma):

So, yes, the country is underrepresented. Whether your schools are looking for students from Myanmar for geographic diversity is something only they know (and they’re not telling). Good luck.
However please know that diversity alone won’t get you in.
You got to have scores, grades, and anything that make you valuable
Thank you for replies , I really appreciate that

I only suck at SAT , expect to increase at least 400 more in Jan ,
Do you think I have a fair shot ? I am not sure … other applicants seem to have more international level awards which I don’t have much ;(
I think you have a shot – but you also should apply to other schools. If you’re a girl, definitely consider the top women’s colleges (Smith, Wellesley, Bryn Mawr)
And you should rethink being premed: it is almost impossible for international students to enter American medical schools. There are very, very few spots open to internationals, and no financial aid. Unless you have a quarter of a million dollars, you will not be able to attend. (No one will give you loans as an international student.)
If your goal is truly to become a practicing medical doctor, you should aim for Europe and/or Australia, not the U.S.
You’ll need to increase your SAT a bit.
Can you add an application to Dickinson? They’re a good college and they seem to match your profile (minus the SAT score). I would suggest other universities but many deadlines have passed.
If you don’t get into your chosen colleges, will you take a gap year?
You’re definitely competitive, and being on Aung San Su Kyi’s side rather than the child of a military colonel would probably help too, but the colleges you listed are “reach for everyone”, or “crapshoots”, or “lottery schools”.
So, you have a fair shot, but odds aren’t in your favor.
@katliamom > I applied 9 Universities: Harvard,Yale,Duke,Upenn,JohnsHopkins,Colgate,Rochester,Union,Syracuse
Well , I am a Boy Still, thank you for your suggestions.
Yes, I know that the odds are astronomical to get admission into US med school;probably, less than 1%.This is my dream so I want to take a shot. But I am not 100% sure;only 90% xD … Probably, I may discover new things in college. But I am enthusiastically interested in Neurology.
Overall, Thank you for your suggestions … I really appreciate that
@MYOS1634 > I applied 9 Universities: Harvard,Yale,Duke,Upenn,JohnsHopkins,Colgate,Rochester,Union,Syracuse.
I will check it, but I think many universities are already passed deadline;Jan15.
My SAT is my main problem. My last chance is Jan 23.I must raise my SAT to around 2200.
I don’t want to take a gap year.I am already 20.I am too old
Yes, Ivy are really crapshoots … All I can do is Pray.If they reject,I hope others 4 will accept me.
Thank you for your suggestion
Do you need financial aid?
If not, or if you can pay 45K/year, Union and Syracuse are good possibilities - not safeties but your odds would be close to 1 in 2.
If you need financial aid, you MUST apply to more colleges, especially since this is your dream.
Dickinson, Muhlenberg, Wooster…? if you tell us what you hope to major in and your budget, we may be able to suggest a few universities with 2/1 deadlines.
Try BUcknell. THey have a scholarship for Burmese students. (U Kyaw Win and Gandasari WIn) http://coursecatalog.bucknell.edu/endowedfunds/endowedscholarships/ See also The Shaw Loo Memorial Scholarship
Being from Myanmar is a major hook in my opinion.
Thank you replies
@MYOS1634 > Yes , I need a financial aid … Thank you for your suggestion.I think I need to apply more universities.
I am going to apply Dickinson. I want to major in Neuroscience or Biology or Bioengineering. My budget will be around 20000 to 30000 annually. Thank you for your help
@IndoBurma > Bucknell’s deadline is already passed. I think I cannot apply anymore.
Contact admissions. Say you’re a student from Myanmar who has been advised to apply to Bucknell but you didn’t know the deadline, would they still accept to read your application if you sent it this weekend?
I know one from stanford. I think u will definitely get into colgate .Do u want to go to medical school?
@MYOS1634 I sent the application to the Bucknell
I am not sure they will read it or not. I also sent the personal email as you suggested.
Thank you
@khintwe Yes , I really wanna go to Medical School. I also have one Myanmar Friend in Stanford. My friend is a boy and the whole burma first. I am not sure we are talking about the same person. xD
A majority of US med schools only accept green card holders or citizens.
@paul2752 Yes, I am quite aware about that. But there are a few medical schools which accept international students every year. Chances will be less than 1%. I have faith in it. :3
Thank you for your remark
