I am wondering if doing mock real estate development would be a good idea?
Would it help or hurt in college admissions?
Would colleges think why does it have to be mock and why can I actually start a development company? (because some people start business, but obviously I can’t)
What would they think, would they think it is cool or will they look down on it as resume padding?
What do you think?
(BTW, I did not think about this to impress colleges, I am already doing this and will keep doing it regardless because it is fun, but I just want to know if I should report it)
What would you do in it? Often, mock investment or UN clubs or other mock clubs have pretty detailed fake situations and I wonder what sort of simulations you could do for RE. Also, are you talking about regular or commercial real estate.
@ I would look at properties and come up with projects as if it was real. I would design the buildings and floor plans and work in order to turn over a profit. There would be a portfolio, although I don’t think I would include the portfolio in applications. I am talking about mainly residential real estate. Now that I think about it it would be cool if there where situations and fake budgets and see how we could turn a profit.
Hmm. I think colleges would think it was cool if it had situational projects and stuff like mock UN does. But if it’s just a place for you guys to meet and talk with no itinerary - then it might look like resume padding.
Not a problem, not a tip. Thing is, you bring no expertise. And other efforts might offer structure.
I’m not sure you can project profit, without understanding costs, feasibility, etc, and the market. But of course, colleges don’t expect a hs kid to have the money to invest. If you enjoy the art side of this, that’s great. But more indivudual.
