I’m going to Grad School this fall. I’m planning to work in the industry/business world for a couple of years and then apply to teaching jobs. I may have to look into CC teaching jobs or jobs in schools because I will not have my PhD by then. Assuming that I land a teaching job, will it be a boring career? Is it like something that we ‘get stuck into’. I’m not worried about the salary etc. But ,I’m more concerned about job satisfaction and (a little of) career growth too.

Any views/experiences/thoughts???

short answer: no
long answer: yes

There is no standard answer to a question like this. If you enjoy teaching then it won’t be boring and if you don’t, it probably will be.

What level do you want to teach? Find 25 people who teach at that level and ask them for their candid opinion.

Are you kidding me? Teaching is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling jobs I can think of. What aspects of the job are you concerned with? Pay? Location? Quality of kids?

If you have some free time, consider teaching overseas for a year and see how you like it. You can teach anything from basic English to SAT/AP + GRE Prep.

travel + teaching = awesome?

Lucky, are you a teacher? What level do you teach?

I was a teacher in Korea for 3 years. I worked with Korean students who wished to attend American universities, teaching mainly SAT Writing, occasional AP classes and took on college admissions counseling in the fall.

It was, in many ways, the best years of my life. But I love kids and helping people succeed, so that explains why I liked my job. Most of the time, haha.

I taught this last year, and I didn’t think it was that great. I think if you are one of those students that constantly finds yourself getting bored becuase the class is moving too slowly, then it’s not a stretch to say that teaching will be a boring/frustrating career for you. You can’t be one of those people that always wants to move on to something more challenging, because everything you teach will be easy for you. You aren’t dealing with content/intellectual problems (you already know what you’re teaching), but social problems. If you like figuring people out, then sure teaching’s a blast. But if it’s the content that you’re passionate about, you won’t learn much more by being a teacher.
