Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Goodbye American Idol-LOL
This show is so much better.

Wow, what an odd turn …

p56, I’m partial to Blake’s humorous song “Some Beach.” Check out the video and see the mullet. lol His current hit is “Honey Bee.” I must admit that when I watch that video I’m transfixed more by his gorgeous blue eyes than the music. I also like “She Wouldn’t Be Gone” and the schmaltzy “Austin.”

I think it will come down to Javier and Dia. I still don’t understand the voting system…

I also thought that “original” song meant they had to have written it; obviously, that wasn’t the case.

It’s interesting that the top 8 are going to tour together. I wonder if that was in the cards from the beginning or the ratings made it an option.

Blake’s on Jay Leno tonight if you need an immediate ‘fix.’

My D has worked with Blake and she said he is funny all the time, not just when the camera is rolling. She said he (and Miranda) are very nice people.

I totally missed Dia’s original song because I had to take a phone call. Maybe I can catch it On Demand later this week. It was the one I was most looking forward to.

I think everything about The Voice (talent, production quality, original songs, etc) is better than American Idol, and I’ve been an Idol fan since the first season.

Thank you, jonri. I never realized what a crush I had on him!

I wonder whether the success of The Voice will prompt AI to make some changes. I think the reason why the talent on TV was better is because there are fewer restrictions on who can be a contestant. Am I correct about that?

Youdon’tsay - I’d agree with you on the fewer restrictions thought. American Idol has to many restritions, and thus lose quite a large amount of talent. I think since it’s “American Idol” and not “Selective Idol” they should open it up to all Americans wishing to compete who have the talent.

Javier would win this contest easily had he been teamed with a better coach. The duet with Adam was just as bad as the opening song. The bald Bev is so overrated. The duet with Aguilera was horrible but that was mostly the star oversinging that ruined it. In general, the duets were a miss, except for Ceelo’s act. So it comes down to the original songs and Javier should take it over Dia.

The format was pretty good, although the first weeks were much better than the last ones. Today was not that entertaining and a sign that the show lost its early edge.

Dia is sitting at #3 on iTunes right now, with Javier at 5. That is a testament to how well these two will sell in the future. Vicci and Beverly are at 29 and 54, also pretty impressive in my opinion. Dia’s from last week is still at 52, while Heartless is at 64.

I would have thought that “bald woman” might be enough to identify her. Maybe there is another one I missed.

Show Just beginning, on the West coast. Dia seems to have solved the flats controversy by wearing a LONG (Red) dress. The flats were a NON-factor!

Liked Javier’s original song however I’m wondering if singing his song first will put him at a disadvantage with the voters?

I thought Dia got overshadowed by Blake and the band during her duet. For me, she is much better when she goes it alone-- just her and her piano, or guitar. It probably was lucky that she gets to do her original song performance afterwards and not before her duet.

Love Vicci but I wasn’t in love with her single tonight.

Wow, Baldy Beverly and Christina hit it out of the park on their duet. They sounded so good together! I like Baldy so much better when she strips it down and doesn’t oversing everything. She peaked at the right time.

Katharine McPhee may have just won the lottery with her new TV role. Time will tell. She really hasn’t done much since she left AI.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dia’s original song but agree that she didn’t need the shadow dancers. She seems to do her best work at the piano.

Javier and Adam’s duet sounded great, but not quite as great as Beverly and Christine. Glad Javier finished strong-- minus the hat!

Baldy had the good fortune of going last on the original songs. This could have been huge, considering she was coming off the best duet performance in tonight’s competition. I didn’t think her song was good enough to win the competition.

Vicci and “Mr. T”-- yo suckah! Slightly cheesy, but I liked it!!

I’m voting for Javier.

LOL! That was what I thought also.

Of course, there used to be TWO bald women in the competition. My 87 year old neighbor differentiated them by whether we were talking about the tattooed one or the one without the tattoos.

I guess we all have our own way to differentiate folk.

Musicmom–you can catch the performances right now on nbc.com.

What a great final performance show! Lots of entertainment…and after two hours, I have no idea who will be crowned the winner.

The producers really went out of their way to find people who would write perfect original material for each contestant (unlike the original material for the AI finalists, which was pretty forgettable).

Bev–fabulous duet with Christina, but what was with the Farmer John outfit? I guess Christina didn’t get much input into that. Linda Perry is an amazing songwriter. I love to listen to “What’s Up” (with the refrain, What’s Going On). Wonderful talent…agree that all of the oversinging was done by Christiana not Bev. As for her original song–great rocking song for her and a great performance of it. My 87 year old neighbor says I’m to cast her votes for Bev.

Javier–Perfect song for him. What a voice…Duet was OK, but then I had a bad experience with it on this season of AI. My 87 year old neighbor’s visiting daughter says that I’m to cast her votes for Javier.

Dia–I thought she did a great job with Blake on their duet. She really looked like she was having a great time (and I liked how she looked in her black suit). As for her original song, what a great choice for her. Of all of the finalists, it seems like Dia has come the farthest. I was surprised at how strong her voice was at times (but not at all times). Confidence is increasing week by week. It’s hard to believe that Blake came up with the shadow dancers…

Vicci–I thought her song gave her a chance to show off her soft side and her rocker side. Loved her outfit, loved her performance. And her duet with Cee Lo…amazing! I was wondering what kind of hair Cee Lo was going to come up with. He’s done the 60s Afro with Sly and the Family Stone; he’s done the slicked back 30s look. What was he going to do? I was not expecting an ORANGE MOHAWK, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome style! Very entertaining…

I loved all 4 performances and performers tonight. So I guess I’ll vote my votes for my season favorite–Vicci.

What a great show this has turned out to be! I admit to being pleasantly surprised.

Pleasantly surprised here, too…in fact, our whole house got caught up. My husband even made sure his schedule worked around the show. Last night, he came in off the lawn mower at 8 p.m. on the nose! I was “over” American Idol years ago. And even then would not start watching until midway through the competition. I was always so annoyed with the bad talent and mediocre talent that was televised. I know SOO many talented singers (some who attempted to audition) that I hated the waste of tv time on people who took spots from actual talent. I hope this show doesn’t mess with the formula too much and it doesn’t “jump the shark” any time in the near future. I loved that the 4 judges were from different genres, I loved the dynamic between judges/contestants and the contestants themselves, I loved the concept, etc.

Last night, for the first time really enjoyed Bev on her duet with Christina; wish she would show that side a little more. I’m not a fan of so much screaming so often but I do think she’s good at what she does. I’d be happy with any of the 4 of them as winner, though I’ve been a Dia fan from early on. Looking forward to tonight’s show and I’ll miss looking forward to it next week.

First time I’ve voted for anyone. If you vote from this screen [The Voice - NBC Official Site](http://www.nbc.com/the-voice/vote/) it couldn’t be easier. I liked all of the original songs. Vicki and Ceelo’s song was fun but did anyone notice the ending where Ceelo seemed to stay in character just a bit too long? Vicki looked like she didn’t know quite what to do. I voted 8 times for Vicki and twice for Javier.

I didn’t know voting was still going on. Thanks! Barely made it!

I just have to put in a word about the “lesbian” identifier. There are some folks who know everyone’s names on the various contest shows. Then there are the rest of us. I usually know names by the end, but now always. I also use identifiers that may not always be PC. Last week the people who got eliminated on *So You Think You Can Dance *were “Tap Dance Guy” (now I know he’s Nick) and “Russian Ballroom Girl” (now I know she’s Yvetta.) The ladies on America’s Next Top Model have been “the one with the bad weave”, “the bee-otch”, “the southern girl” etc. I adored Mondo on Project Runway, but still for the first few episodes he was “the little weird guy.” None of these identifiers are ever mean spirited…it’s just a way for me to discuss without being totally caught up.

The voting on this show is a little weird in that you can vote 10 votes for each of the artists. So, I put in 30 votes total, to cover not only my votes but also those of my couch buddies.

I also bought all of the original songs on iTunes…

I am not sure how the voting totals work still … I voted for Javier on the phone 10 times, and then tried to vote again and it seemed to let me, but I was pooped after re-dialing 10 times as it were so stopped. I also clicked 10 votes for Javier online with the same email ID, and it seemed to let me click more than 10 votes. So I either can’t count, or I could have voted forever, or it let’s me think I can vote forever but it only counts my first 10? Either way, I don’t care … I’m still buying a CD worth of Javier.

Regarding the flats on Dia … what flats? I loved that red dress on her! That’s what I wanted … she was still herself but looked like she was a professional musician version of herself. Perfect solution. I think her voice is good, but she doesn’t hit her notes as consistently as I would like for someone to take “The Voice” title, but I’ll still be happy for her if she wins because she certainly has worked hard to get this far.
