I enjoyed last night’s show. On Team Blake, I like Cody (but also did like Joshua). On Team Christina, I liked Treeva. On Team Pharrell, I really liked Sawyer, but also liked Lowell. Poor Adam!
thanks for the reminder! i’ve bookmarked this thread. I’ve enjoyed the voice; but have only downloaded 2 songs over the years from different performers. perhaps one will “hit” me this year.
I love the blind auditions and thought there were some really unique sounds last night. What about that young woman who had won a national acapella championship?!! Was she horrible or did she just pick the wrong song?
She sounded better singing “Happy” with Pharrell. Wonderful impromptu on Pharrell’s part!
I felt a little disappointed. I didn’t hear anyone that made me think, “Wow, that person is really great. They could win!”
@toledo, I also loved the way Pharrell got up to sing with her and give her a special moment. I don’t know if it was song choice or nerves, but she was disappointing until she sang “Happy” with him.
I missed it last night but watched on the NBC website this morning. I thought it was a fun episode. Lowell and Joshe were my favorites, and I liked Sawyer, too. It did seem like the deck was stacked against Adam in terms of the type of singers that performed this time, and I’m sure that will change, maybe tonight. I’m cynical enough to believe it was part of the plan to lead to a little drama- keep things from being too predictable.
I do like the Voice, so much more than American Idol. With this show, they aren’t out to make fun of people and put them through the ringer in the way they seem to on American Idol. That said, there is still enough variation of talent that it’s exciting to watch for the stand out talents to surprise us!
I agree, shoboemom. I really appreciate that the judges want to encourage rather than discourage the contestants.
There’s no meanness towards them at all. They reserve that for one another.
And even that is an act, which is ok if it doesn’t upstage and distract from the singers, imo.
On Idol, the auditions are downright boring. On the Voice, the auditions are perhaps the best part of the show.
I didn’t realize a new season was starting! I’ll have to find it on line and catch up.
Personally, I tend to call her Chestina also. Completely based on the way SHE CHOSE to present herself in prior seasons. The fact that she was frequently small-minded and vengeful towards other people’s contestants didn’t help.
I just watched the show. Christina has definitely changed for the better, in both appearance and behavior. I’ll have to stop calling her Chestina. At least for now. B-)
I enjoyed all of the people who turned a chair, although I have the suspicion that some of them will turn out to be quite limited.
I agree that the falsetto guy over-used it. But they can work on that. The guy who sang He Stopped Loving Her Today was pretty remarkable. In general, I agree with JShain’s estimation of the performers
mamabear1234, You won’t hear me call CA by that nickname again. As a male, I don’t want to make comments that would be construed as offensive to a woman. I had replied to you before now but for some reason it didn’t post.
^^^very classy
I agree with @Consolation that Chestina was dressing two years ago in a way that suggested we should remember her Beetles, however I also agree that @jshain is super classy to start fresh this year as she appears to be trying to turn a new leaf by dressing and acting a little classier.
The last guy on Monday was special. I hope he translates well into the next rounds. I loved the 15-year old young man. Tonight one of my daughters music mentors is on … I hope she does well.
And who would that mentor be? It’s fun following people that posters have connections with.
I’m assuming people call her Chestina because she dresses sleazy and is obnoxious? Well, I haven’t seen her in the show before, as last year was my first year…but if she does that this season, she’ll be Chestina to me. I’ll give her a chance though, we’ll see.
I was reading an obituary today in our small-town newspaper and one of the survivor’s middle name was Chestine!
Better singers than in previous seasons. I am not sure why the performers end up picking the judge who turns the chair at the last second. Seems obvious that it should earn them a faster trip under the bus in the rounds.
The show almost always starts and ends with four chairs turns. The heavy production s becoming tangible. Wonder how true the battles among the judges really are.
I don’t think when the judge turns around is important. For example, Xtina likes “trills”–that may not be the correct term, but I hope you know what I mean. From what I can figure out, she often waits until the singer does one to hit her button. I don’t mean she automatically turns around for anyone who does one. It’s that sometimes she seems to wait until she hears one to decide if she wants the singer on her team. So, if a singer waits until near the end to do one, then Xtina waits to the end to push the button.
I also think that the judges tend to push their buttons later as their teams fill up. So, Adam, who had nobody, was pushing his quicker than those who already had several team members.
I also think these contestants have watched the past seasons and many have figured out who they want as their coach before they start to sing. I suspect that Adam was having a harder time convincing contestants to go for him because even though he has won, he’s definitely done it by throwing people under the bus, as xiggi put it. I think Pharell has helped some of his contestants who didn’t go to the end get record contracts, and I think that’s made him attractive. Adam may be a good coach–I haven’t a clue–but he doesn’t seem to help his team members as much as Blake and Pharell do.
Heck, if you were sure you wanted to be a country singer, wouldn’t you pick Blake even if he was the last one to push his button? He’s the one who has the contacts in the country music industry and he seems willing to use them. How much help can Adam Levine give a country music singer?
Adam yesterday had nobody.
Today… I like his team.
A country singer should choose Blake.
If a singer is not a country singer…no way.
