Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Lots of great back stories in night 2. Especially liked Tonya’s story and “inner spirit”, as well as street performer Anthony who got arrested on the street and spent a night in jail.

My favorite artist tonight BY FAR: Anthony (who opened the show). Great voice, dance moves, performance. Well-deserved standing O by the judges (Team Pharrell). How is it that someone so talented has to work the streets? I also liked 16-year-old Brooke-- beautiful tone for such a young performer.

Thought Adam gave Mia great advice when he said to “lose some of the sauce”. At just 15-years-old, she has a big upside with good coaching and song choices (Team Pharrell). I think Christina will steal her if she loses in the battle or knockout rounds.

Didn’t feel the love for Joe, the Samoan kid (Team Christina). Great falsetto, but I thought his bottom range was shaky.

Good thing Adam landed 3 tonight. I was going to start calling him either Mr. Behati Prinsloo or Adam Who(?). He probably didn’t go one and one-half shows without getting picked, it’s just the way they produced what appeared to be two separate shows on Monday and Tuesday. (Christina was wearing the same outfit on Monday and so were the guys, right?)

I love the constructive critiques the coaches give the ones that don’t make it.

Too bad the contestants don’t know who is already on the coach’s team. Blake only wants to end up with one male and one female country singer on his team (from what I observed last season). So if he already has an extremely good one, it could make their chances worse, as far as getting to the end.

This was the pick that made no sense. Adam turned at the last note …

Confused girl!

@jshain, I agree with you about Anthony. He seems to be one of those people who need the exposure more than the coaching.

I think the auditions are shown out of order. What I’d be curious to know, how many do they choose to go to blind auditions and how many actually get to the first audition before all the spots are full. You’d certainly get nervous getting a later spot. The first people are often just snagged willy nilly.

I stand by my statement that they really want the younguns. While some of the older ones are wonderful, if you’re 37 and haven’t broken in yet, it’s probably not going to happen for you big time.

The big winners of this show are the judges. Just look at the grammy’s - they were all over that show.

And a final shout out - I loved Adam’s song from Begin Again, and he sang it on the Oscars, I was disappointed it didn’t win.

I agree that Anthony was the best.

I HATED the back stories. I felt like I was watching an old episode of “Queen for a Day.” My parents are deaf; my mom had a stroke; I’m one of 8 children and my father left us; I came here as a child and got bullied because my dad worked in my school as a janitor; I got into Berklee School of Music, but my dad wouldn’t pay my tuition; yada, yada, yada.

It seems as if it’s too early for last night’s songs to show up on iTunes. It’s interesting to see which ones from Monday night are selling. Right now, Sawyer is winning this competition.

Of course they are; it allows them to edit for TV. As mentioned upthread, one should assume that the last (and usually the first), will be multi-chair turns. The auditions are not even on the same day, but the coaches still wear the same clothes for continuity. It’s similar to how they tape Shark Tank.

Well, one has to wonder how much this is due to production. After all, the producers decide what they want to air, and I believe that the contestants are ASKED to add such personal notes to appeal to the public. The same happens on the Food Network. Ever wondered how many cooks who compete on Chopped are cooking for daddy who just passed or for grandma who made that wonderful pasta or osso bucco in dah old homeland? Every once in a while, there will be a contestant who declares to be competing for himself ONLY and the 10,000 bucks. How refreshing!

One can safely assume that the sob stories are working for the ratings. Just as images of abandoned puppies raise plenty of money – and probably more than images of horrible schools!

Our friend whose daughter was on last season, said they do tons of interviews, and then they decide what to put on about the family. You have no idea what the story is that they are going to zoom in on as the main focus. They decided that his daughter’s story was going to be about getting a facial burn at seven years old, even though that is probably a distant memory for her now, I guess that was the biggest tragedy they could find. It also cracked me up that they labeled her dad a musician, instead of an airline pilot—when all he ever did was play in a band in college, and sing in the choir.

I noticed that once they had an initial sob story for someone, they just stuck with it all season. I understand why they do that to pull you in, in the first place, but it would be more interesting to expand upon someone’s life instead of being stuck in that same story. I mean, what if you briefly mentioned that you got teased for being flat chested in high school, and then you gained some weight—look at them now! Could that be your entire identity, the girl with no boobs?

Oh, I’m sure they are! I just find it ridiculous. The best performer ought to win, even if (s)he has two happily married, financially successful parents to whom (s)he is very close.

Ridiculous and … annoying!

A young cousin of mine was a finalist for casting on the UK version of Big Brother. He said that the producers were obviously trying to get him to say that his father was “distant,” since his mother came with him to London. THey were trying to construct his sob story. Their other major Q for him was “Will you have sex on camera.” Uh, no…

Her face was flashed on but she didn’t perform yet. I guess next week as there are still more auditions. I thought she was from India, but I misunderstood and her name is India. Silly mom.

Well…India performed tonight and WOW!!! She was amazing.

Yes, India was great and the song choice was fantastic.

So… Who got India?

4 chairs and she chose Christina

Yay, India! Wow, I was impressed. My D texted me and told me not to tell her anything as she is 2 hours behind. I think she will be very happy for her friend.

I thought it was really weird that Jacob chose Blake~

You will never be available for a steal!

Too bad India did not pick Adam and we could not see
