Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Did dstark call all the winners tonight in a previous post?

Toledo…I didn’t bother with the top 12. I went right to 8 1/2.

I am not sure Deanna is going to hold up. I took the top 2 from each team and added Brian…just in case.

I gave Blake’s team the benefit of the doubt. I don’t think his team is strong.

Agreed! Meghan lacks “relevance”. She will need to pull an “iTunes miracle” out of her hat very soon or Blake might be the first coach with no contenders.

Jshain, do you think Blake sandbagged it this year? He gave up Joshua. Geez…

I definitely think Blake “checked out” last night as a spectating coach. He did NOT want to be there and he knows Meghan doesn’t have a realistic shot and there are way too many weeks to go before a winner is crowned. He has to be kicking himself over Joshua. He should feel grateful that last season the was able to steal back CWB for the win. It’s “producer” Pharrell’s to lose this season, with Adam and Christina close behind. I think Pharrell gets two of his team in the finals in Sawyer and Mia Z., Adam gets Joshua, and Christina gets India. Not sure anyone would argue with those four. The only other “surprises”, as I see it, may be Kimberly or Meghan-- but they have no shot of winning.

jshain, I like your list. I think you are right. I think Kimberly can sneak in if one of the four faulters. Kimberly will not win though.

Why this love of the falsettos? I did listen to Ella, Carmen McRae, Cleo Laine and Sarah Vaughan growing up. They didn’t sing their songs too straight. Still…Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and Dean Martin could not win the Voice because their ranges aren’t large enough? Seriously? Nat King Cole was the King! I thought Frank Sinatra was the voice! Frank Sinatra and Pavarotti!

I don’t want to pretend to be an expert here. We have experts here in this forum. My wife makes me watch The Voice in another room because I am always asking her, “Was that good? What do you think?” My wife got fed up with all my questions. Lol

So here is my question again, where does this love of the falsettos come from? If the song sounds good, who cares about falsettos?

That Maroon 5 song about animals is awful.

I have never been a fan of falsettos. I figure that if you want to listen to a high voice, listen to a woman. A natural high voice sounds better anyways.

Can’t believe Blake saved Hannah over Sarah. What a dumb choice. He doesn’t have much of a team left.

I guess Christina’s choice was okay. America got it right with India (who was amazing) and Kimberly (though her singing was just a little bit weird). Sonic was so out of tune, it was awful, and the coaches just breezed over that.

Pharrell has such a great overall team. All of them. Again, America also got it right with Sawyer and Mia. You know, this show would be better if the judges got to pick from all the competitors who didn’t make it into their final two, not just their own team. Some of the people going home on his team are better than the ones left on Blake’s team. I bet he wouldn’t mind a trade.

Adam’s team didn’t sound like they practiced the group number very often. Sorry to see Tonya going home. Maybe they can’t have two bald black ladies left in the final twelve. I understand why Adam picked Brian as his pick. He is a phenomenal singer, but I think weight discrimination really works against him. If he was 50-80 pounds lighter, he would be a frontrunner, for sure.

I thought the group numbers got progressively worse. I have to say that when I see India and Kimberly go head to head, I prefer Kimberly. India sounded shaky even in the group setting. It was so nice not seeing Kimberly in her signature tutu!

Nobody except for a ballerina should wear a tutu. Ever. There is no good excuse.

I am getting tired of the falsettos. I don’t mind a little bit in a song, but songs like Sugar, by Adam Levine, just annoy me. My husband, on the other hand, likes that song. It sounds like men trying to sing like women, when you know women could do it better.

busdriver - I like the idea of America’s choice of 2 winners then letting coaches picking from who remains. They can flip a coin to take turns choosing amongst whose left. I daresay no one would have touched anyone from Blake’s team.

I was surprised that Adam picked Brian over Tonya, but in reality I don’t think either of them are going to get any votes on their looks alone. I prefer Tonya, but Brian probably does have more commercial potential, if he loses a lot of weight. But I look back at Barry Minniefield and ask why he isn’t still here…I guess you can lose weight but you can’t make yourself younger. :frowning:

I think Pharrell made the mistake in not keeping Lowell.

Sarah is a more immediately enjoyable singer than Hannah, but you’ve got the looks and age factor going on there also.

I didn’t like Sarah at all. To me I thought she appealed to the 55+ crowd longing for the memories of the 60’s & 70’s music scene.

But I don’t like the screaming high noters either - like most of Christina’s team. I can see India is well trained but she almost seems too trained for pop music.

Sawyer, Mia Z and Deanna. My choice, at this point, for top three. Not sure Deanna can hold up either, as another poster said, but I think she has a lot of potential. Also like Josh, but not sure he’s versatile enough.

Okay, let’s play "who will be the top-5? Here are my picks in the order they finish (1st to 5th):

Sawyer (Team Pharrell)
Mia Z. (Team Pharrell)
Joshua (Team Adam)
Kimberly (Team Xtina)
Either India (Team Xtina or Meghan (Team Blake) but I personally prefer Meghan over India.

I will play…as of tonight…

1.Sawyer
2.Joshua
3.Mia
4.Deanna
5.Kimberly

India was my favorite after her first song…the rest of the songs India has been solid…but she isn’t blowing me away.

So…6.India or Brian

I guess I think Adam’s team is pretty good.

I think Deanna could definitely get into the top-5. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

However, I think voters are also voting for the coach of each performer and Blake is probably a more popular coach than Adam. I think, or at least hope, Meghan gets some help from the voters because of who her coach is. She will definitely need to do better with her iTunes downloads also. I don’t think we’ve heard her best performance yet.

Jshain, I agree with you. Members of Blake’s team are going to benefit because of Blake.

I would pick Rob over anybody on Blake’s team. I just don’t see Rob getting the votes.

This is a tough one. I’m calling top 5 as Sawyer, Joshua, Mia, India and Deanna. Even in that order.

But of course, one bad performance could do someone in, or a great one could move them up. Deanna really impressed me this week. She looked like a beautiful angel in that dress, and if she keeps singing those kinds of songs, she is going to get the country/Christian vote for sure. I hope Joshua steps it up, and doesn’t sing so quietly. He could start to become boring if he doesn’t amp it up, and I really would like for him to stay.
