Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Sawyer sounded good to me. Deanna looks great. I think Deanna is going to be saved again because I think next week she is going to sing while wearing a swimsuit.

My favorites tonight were Koryn, Sawyer and India.

I think Josh and Hannah should go home.

I thought tonight was Kimberly’s best performance of the season. I hope going first doesn’t jinx her. Wardrobe, hide her tutus… better yet, throw them out!!!

Joshua sounded really shaky in the opening group number and it seemed to really carry over into his performance. He didn’t seem comfortable or particularly confident did he? When your own coach doesn’t love it, you’re in trouble.

I personally did not think Hannah delivered. Way too forced, imo. Still better than Deanna though.

Meghan sounded great and I loved her style transformation!

Koryn definitely impressed. I’m starting to believe the right 16-year-old female got kept. I do think she gets a little too nasal-sounding at times and hope they can eliminate some of it.

Deanna absolutely butchered one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists of all time. It’s over. She’s done.

Rob wins the (male) range award tonight. But, a little too theatrical for my taste.

CKW survives another week. Male country singers on the Voice MUST have a first, middle, and last name.

Sawyer was solid!

India looked and sounded great however the song choice wasn’t a home run was it?

Tonight’s bottom dwellers for me: Joshua, Deanna, and Hannah but would not be surprised if Rob was in it either.

I hope Kimberly's performance moves up on the itunes chart....it deserves to be way ahead of Hannah's. She was at the bottom for me, along with Josh (dull), Rob (kind of a mess) and Deanna (dreadful).

I would be surprised if Kimberly song improves drastically on iTunes. While Etta remains a favorite of singing competitions, this song is not the most known. The gospel meets Las Vegas did not help. She is obviously safe but will need to pick more modern songs and show more versatility to move in the final 3-4.

I can’t agree with Jshain about this being her best performance or the clothes. I think she did much better the last two weeks, and that outfit tonight was just awful. I think tonight was her weakest week.

She is way overrated, IMHO. There have been a few in her genre in the past seasons and they have usually finished out of the final four.

The local news interviewed Josh on the red carpet and asked him what he was going to do after his performance. He said he was going to have a shot of whiskey lol!

Probably needed that after that dud of a song Adam gave him. It was a song meant to highlight all of his weaknesses and throw him under the bus. With a song not many have heard. A terrible song choice at this stage.

I love reading all your comments. We seem to be in agreement this week.

It seemed like some contestants got to pick their own songs, and some were given songs (or had songs forced on them, as in Josh’s case). Did anyone else notice this?

xiggi, I just thought the “toned-down” Kimberly made her, for me, really enjoyable to watch-- vocally, appearance, movement, etc.

toledo, I didn’t notice anyone selecting their own songs. Seems like coaches selected all. Refresh my memory?

I thought Koryn and Megan were two who picked their songs. I remember one of the judges asking if the contestant picked the song (but don’t remember which contestant). I remember a contestant saying they “couldn’t get the melody”. Again, I don’t remember which one, but remember thinking they couldn’t have picked their song.

Jshain, it’s a matter of personal taste and bias. Neither can be universal. I understand your point and can see why many would agree with you. I think the girl needs a lot of help in choosing better clothes. Maybe she could call Quentin.

Unfortunately I missed Kimberley, who I always enjoy. Hannah…what can one say. She’s an engaging performer, her pitch is great, but I don’t know if I would recognize her voice out of context and it isn’t particularly appealing. She, like some others, would seem to me to be suited for a career as front man/woman for a band, not a solo career.

Deanna’s voice is somewhat similar to Grace Slick’s, and that’s a killer song. She should have been able to knock it out of the park, but she just couldn’t quite get there in terms of energy/forcefulness. Or is that the style they were aiming for? Frustrating. She should have been strutting around the stage, the way Kimberley can. ARGH!

I’m a fan of Josh’s, but Adam did not do him any favors tonight. BTW, I may be alone in this but I think Josh is extremely attractive, with those killer blue eyes. Unlike Adam, Pharrell continues to let Sawyer do what Sawyer does best.

Corey has a very attractive voice, but he’s not much of a performer. Blake seemed to be visibly disgusted with him last night. I couldn’t figure out why he kept putting a heavy emphasis on what to me was the wrong note/beat in the chorus. Very irritating.

Koryn surprised me, I have to admit. She was great. (And do note that for the second week in a row Pharrell made an open pleas for Christian/Gospel fans to vote for her.)

Rob was good, but his falsetto leaps, although beautifully executed, were not effective to me in terms of the overall shape of the song, to me. They were just too disconnected.

I dozed off during the last commercial and woke up halfway through India. What I heard was standard India balladeering. She’s great, of course, but I’m bored with it. I’m not a Whitney fan, never was. How about having HER sing something like Somebody to Love. How about White Rabbit? (Probably too risque for TV. )

ETA: I forgot Meghan. She looked a LOT better, and did sing the hell out of that song. I know it’s ridiculous, but just the expression on her face irritates the hell out of me, She looks as if she’s always about to break out into a complaint.

I’m pretty sure that the stylist hire by the show pick the contestant’s outfits. Hard to say how much each gets to
pick what they want. Yet some seem to be able to have more influence over their own style, like Sawyer. But then, that may have been a calculated decision by the stylists, also. They may have realized that his unassuming presentation is part of his charm and let it be.

moonchild, I seem to remember Kimberly saying, early on this season before stylist involvement, that the tutu was her own signature look.

I remember most of them picked their songs, except for Adam’s team, and was wondering why.

Well…I just checked itunes. Results are as of 9 am, so things might change. http://www.popvortex.com/music/charts/itunes-voice-rankings.php

Koryn is in first place among the Voice contestants. It looks like she and Sawyer are the only ones with overall top 10 performances. That surprises me because I think Sawyer’s performance was his weakest thus far.

India and Hannah are neck and neck, which frankly blows my mind. On the regular chart, which was updated about half an hour later, Hannah is one above India. http://www.popvortex.com/music/charts/top-100-songs.php

I’m not sure how they are doing the elimination this week as two are going home. If it’s the bottom 3 and America saves one, the bottom 3 right now are Deanna, Rob, and Josh. The margin between Corey and Josh is thin, though, so it’s possible things will change in 3 hours.

I love Kimberley’s tutus.

So sue me! :O)

" I couldn’t figure out why he kept putting a heavy emphasis on what to me was the wrong note/beat in the chorus. Very irritating."

I agree. I don’t know why Corey was emphasizing the word HAD every single time. That’s not how King George sings it.

Yeah, and I didn’t even know the song. All I could notice were those HADs and that arm motion that went with it.

Well, we’ll know in a few hours.

Inasmuch as it would give great pleasure to see Adam being a non-factor for the duration of the show, and despite the fact that Joshua had a bad week, I think the show would be better with him in it as opposed to have more Rob types. While I still believe his lack of range has been completely exposed, he might have a chance to hang around a couple of weeks with better song choices. Of course, we all know what Adam would do … and that is not very good. Even with three top performers last year, he found a way to sabotage all of them by attempting to create little Adam clones.

Regarding Corey, the CW posse might be holding on their money and wait to start buying iTunes, or possibly find out how the Apple ecosystem works.

If itunes is any indication, it looks like Josh may be ok this week. I wonder what Adam will do with him this week, since he will be the only contestant he has left.

I’m surprised that Josh is ahead of Meghan. One wonders if it’s rigged somehow so that Adam won’t be left high and dry tonight.
