Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

I don’t know if they all have similar histories but I wouldn’t be surprised if most have had some success already. If I recall correctly, one of the guys was a backup singer for Alicia Keys. Another was on the Mickey Mouse Club with Christina. The bow-tie kid was on The Glee Project. Chris Mann has a ton of L.A. based recording experience. Jordis was on RockStar. My guess is that if you google the contestants, many/most of them will have had fairly extensive prior experience.

Javier, the first season winner, was a former high school student of mine! He comes back every year to see his “old” teachers and his music teacher. He put on a concert at the HS a month after winning… always a great kid…we are all so proud of him!

Ragsypagsy, What a thrill that must be for you and other teachers of his. Thanks for sharing!

No one watching The Voice tonight? I hate posting twice in a row…

Loved how Erin on Team Blake was a top vote-getter and that Jordis had one of her better performances to date and was saved. Until now, I haven’t been a big fan of hers, but tonight she nailed it with her rendition of “Wild Horses”. I didn’t love Jesse’s song choice on Monday night but am glad he still got the votes. I agreed with the voter’s picks for Team Christina, but thought Sera should have gotten the save over Ashley.

There sure were some mediocre at best “sing for you life” performances on Tuesday tonight.

I haven’t settled on any favorites this season–the blind auditions are the best part of the show, and since then, my interest has waned. But I have to say that I was very impressed this week with the transformation of Christina’s look from blowzy streetwalker to upscale call girl. She looks the best I’ve seen her in years. Really a very attractive woman when she ditches the hair extensions, reduces the pounds of makeup and gets those puppies more under control. (Looks like she also lost quite a bit of weight since the previous episodes were taped.) Someone’s giving her good styling advice…finally.

^^^:)^^^ lol!

She was falling out of her top again yesterday. I liked the top she wore the night before.

I agree that Christina looked the best she has this season (and maybe last season, too!). I thought it was hard to get excited about the ones voted off, although I do like the idea of a judge being able to make a save. I just wish they could have saved one they cut loose in the battle round over some of the ones in the bottom 3 on each team.

Oops, I was in the wrong thread yesterday and posted this as I was watching:

I found that Monday’s show produced two good performances - Jesse and Erin - a bunch of mediocre performances and a few that were awful. I hope that teams Cee Lo and Adam do a better job. Although I wasn’t surprised that she got the votes, I thought that RaeLynn’s performance Monday night was embarrassingly bad. It reminded me of those awful Toddlers and Tiaras shows where little girls saunter around the stage pretending to be something that they obviously are not.

alwaysamom, We felt the same way about RaeLynn’s performance, it was just plain bad. I think she’s an adorable girl, but not a very good singer.

I’ve got to say that I think the whole selection pool this season is pretty weak. I found myself switching over to the movie Backdraft, (over on another channel) during commercials and sometimes during the performances! What’s up with so many quiet, mumbley women singers? Way too much time is spent on choreography and not enough time on getting the sound right, IMHO.

I tuned in this year because I needed a mindless show to watch. I, too, liked the blind auditions, but have been lukewarm about the rest. I don’t think I will watch it after this season, if I can get through this season. I also realize I better not lose my day job and try to become a music producer. I have been wrong about 75% of the time on who they pick.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling it is going to come down to the opera singer with the crazy eyes and Lord Voldermort with the eyeliner. I wouldn’t buy their music or listen to the radio for either of them, as they sound too technically good to me, without a lot of soul, though Lord Voldermort may be a good lead singer for Queen. I agree that Raelynn was awful. I hope Jessie wins it all, but I have already forgotten most of the others on Adam and CeeLo’s team, so I might like somewhere there. I do love me some CeeLo, though, that outfit Monday was the crazy.

^I love your post and agree with you about “Crazy Eyes” and “Lord Voldermort”.
Ceelo is a riot. You never know what kind of outfit and look he’s going to show up wearing.
I crack up whenever I see him stroking that furry white cat.

Okay, guys, if you’re going to refer to Tony as Lord Voldemort, at least spell it correctly. The funny thing is that before he had to shave his head for a role, and without the eyeliner, he was a real prettyboy! It’s hard to tell with the current look but if you google him when he was in Rent on Broadway, you’ll see what I mean.

^^^^Should have proofread my post; lots of spelling and grammatical errors, which drive me crazy since I have to look at it and can’t correct it anymore, sorry for that! I would see CeeLo in concert, along with Bruno Mars, as both would be tremendously entertaining. I really like CeeLo’s song Forget You, or the version not on the radio, F* You, it has a nice Motown vibe, and the video is funny. His cat is hilarious. Adam and Blake seem very sweet, and Christina the opposite. I still think the guy that Voldemort went up against was a better singer, wish he was still in it.

I thought Monday’s live show was disappointing overall. Tony had a really poor song choice that didn’t showcase his talent. Although I don’t expect him to be in the bottom 3, I didn’t think he had one of the better performances of the night, either. I liked but didn’t love Kim, Mathai, Juliet, and Jamar.

Lots of possibilities on who is in the bottom 3.

I was surprised at how critical Christina was of Tony’s performance. I agree with CeeLo that Kim’s song choice was too risky given Adele is so popular right now.

Didn’t expect to like Juliet but I did.
Wonder of Christina was bending over backwards to not show any bias toward her old friend from Micky Mouse Club?

What really strikes me about many of the song choices is that they are amazingly un-tuneful.

At least we are likely to get rid of Garter Girl.

Just tuned in late to Tuesday’s results show here on the West Coast. Heard Kim and Karla do their songs for their save. They both sounded terrible. Katrina was better than the other two. Thought she deserved to get the save, based on her performance tonight. Wow, didn’t like Tony again tonight. Erin had the weakest performance. It seems like it was Cheesa by default.

I didn’t like Tony either. I really wanted to like Karla (she’s from our state as is Katrina) but every note just sounded so breathy and whispered. Didn’t like Katrina’s dress. It didn’t go with the song she sang. They need to give her a younger look. They’ve tried with the hair extensions. Now they need to work on her wardrobe.
