Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

I thought there were a lot of strong performances tonight. Pip had me in his court until he did that weird falsetto almost at the end of his song. I don’t see him lasting. I wasn’t in love with Chessa’s Whitney Houston or Mattai (sp?) - but they were still pretty good. What has Christina got against her Mouseketeer buddy? She damns him with her Mouseketeer reunion shtick? She really can be hateful. I thought he was quite good tonight.

Not surprised that Ceelo sent home James - it wasn’t his best song tonight. And of course I could see that Adam would let Pip go.

Yes,Pip knocked himself out of the competition with the ending of his song…just not good.
James was kinda flat in places and just didn’t have a “wow” moment…back to the garage.

I thought Jesse was good last night…his best performance so far. It was the first time he didn’t look/sing like an opera star. Boo Christina.

Katrina did a great job with Jar of Hearts. So weird to see her in the interview clips with her real hair and then on stage with the extensions. The dress she wore last night was the best for her so far.

Loved CeeLo’s group performance.

So what hallucinogenic drug do you think the set designers are ingesting? Some of the sets are just so bizarre, and so weirdly literal. Plus, many of the singers seem to struggle with singing louder than the background music.

As to performances, glad to see the teenybopper boys go home, both really struggled, plus bad song choices. I was holding my breath, though, when James Massone was hugging everyone with those spikes all over his varsity jacket, maybe he did it on purpose? I loved Jamar and Christina tonight, and really hope Matthai goes home; her voice really grates on me. I am on the fence about Juliet Sims; she is really good, but everything is sounding kind of the same. Out of all the singers, I would probably listen to Christina if she continues to sing like that, but I am not in a demographic anyone is interested in. :)

I love CeeLo more and more every week. I think he is a great coach, you can see how cohesive and close his team is compared to the others. Plus he really let them shine in the song. He is quite the showman, and I bet he puts on a great concert if his performances last night are any indication. He is able to carry off a wild set, unlike the contestants.

My guess who is going home tonight? Cheesa and Matthai.

I agree with Christina about the ex-Mouseketeer. I think he’s boring and average. I feel the coaches have given him a lot of extra chances because he was a Mouseketeer. Unfortunately, he may have peaked at 12 or 13 or whatever age he was on the kid show.

^^^^
So true, nysmile. He was so boring I completely forgot about him!I didn’t understand what the big deal about the song was, since I had never heard it before, but it was still meh. I do think he may be in with the sympathy vote, though he should go home.

I was intrigued by y’all’s commentary, so I just watched the show on Hulu. I haven’t watched all season so, with a fresh eye, I’ll say that James going home was a good call. I love that song, but he sang it so flat. CeeLo steered him wrong, I feel, coaching him to be too cool for school. On Adam’s team, I didn’t think either Pip or Mattai was great last night.

Overall, CeeLo’s team was much stronger than Adam’s.

I’m just getting caught up on Monday’s show. I loved Katrina’s performance and thought she looked amazing. I think Adam has a shot to win it all two years in a row, riding Katrina’s blond locks.

Oh, I hope Katrina wins the sing-off …

Right with you, kelsmom. I had hoped she would be safe, but I’m glad for Tony given how Christina has treated him.

Tony was awesome last night! He is from my area, so we are pulling for him. I think Christina did a great job just now, and I am betting she will get the nod.

It was “…Baby One More Time”, the song that made Britney Spears famous. Obviously, a slap at Christina after her nasty comments to him.

I liked Cheesa’s performance the best and I haven’t been a Cheesa fan until now. She really did hit those big notes on Monday night.

Called that right, wrldtrvlr!

Sending home Pip and James was easy–they really didn’t have WOW nights and their teammates did. I’m glad Katrina stepped up her game last week–Matthai has an interesting quality to her voice, which the judges usually love. So she needed to really do a great job…and I think she did.

The hard decision for me was Cee Lo’s…I really liked both Chessa and Juliet, thought they both did great jobs. I could have lived with either one staying. Just sorry to have to see one of them go.

Gripe about Christina all we want…she had great advice for Juliet. When Juliet sang in that softer voice of hers, she sounds like she’s singing while holding her nose. Christina told her to cut that out…I have to agree!

I was sad Chessa was sent home. Cee Lo has an awesome team this year. He is a great coach.

Next year, no one should select Christina.

I think that CeeLo made a huge mistake in sending James home instead of Chessa or Cheesa or whatever her name is.

Monday night’s semi-finals was really good overall. Since half (4 out of 8) are going home, there will be some undeserving of not making the cut on Tuesday night.

I thought the biggest disappointment was with Erin’s performance. I know she picked a song to honor her father’s passing, but it didn’t really show off her amazing vocals and I thought the arrangement was also amiss. I think she’s going home based on her performance. I actually liked all the other girls and would download any of those songs on iTunes over all the others.

Pretend you are the team’s coach - how would you divide your 100 points:

Team Blake – Erin 45, Jermaine 55
Team Christina – Chris 70, Lindsey 30
Team Ceelo – Jamar 60, Juliet 40
Team Adam – Katrina 50 , Tony 50

Did not get to see much of this season. For me, this show loses its attraction after the first couple of weeks. Saw bit and pieces tonight between more interesting baseball games. There are so OK singers but how in the world did that Juliet screamer get through. The competition must have been dismal. On the other hand, last season they also kept an untalented moronic rocking screamer until the end. Perhaps, that is what they meant with the title “The Voice.”

All in all, the talent that shows up (and the final decisions) also shows how poorly the US compares to the foreign versions. Much more entertaining, much better candidates. The UK gets Paul Potts and we promptly get some plump Pavarotti lookalike (without the talent.) The UK discovers Adele and Leona Lewis, and we get that British West Indies entirely fabricated on the X-factor. Not to mention a slew of plump ladies … just in case!

I agree, Xiggi, the first few weeks are the best, but then you’re sucked in.

I really have no idea how to divide the points. Does one go home from each team? I guess I fast forward through too much of the talking, I don’t know what is going on!

I think the producers or whoever really want Juliet to win, as she always seems to get the anchor spot. I am not getting this infatuation.

And, did Chris’ girlfriend say, ‘Christina is a great coach for people who are insane?’ I kept rewinding to see if I had heard correctly. Maybe that is just my predisposed notion of him, but they did seem to give him a tranquilizer or something today, he didn’t have that stary, intense look. I’m not really digging the opera lite, anyway, to be honest.

Tony was a nice surprise, and I thought Jermaine did a good job, also, though I think he messed up the beginning. I guess this was not the night for the judges to do any real critique. Can’t really remember Jamar’s, that’s probably not a good sign, but maybe I went to the kitchen at that time to get a snack for poor studious DS, who hasn’t watched tv since Spring Break.

As to the girls, I’m kind of tired of Juliet, and I think Erin will go home, it just wasn’t the strong performance it needed to be, plus it sounded like she hit one note off; if I notice it than it must be off. I love Katrina’s voice, it is very unique, can’t make up my mind about Lindsey, but she is growing on me.

If it is one person per team, I hope Jermaine, Lindsey, Jamar and Katrina stay; yes, some of that (Jamar) is story-driven. What did you guys think?

I’m another one that watches baseball games at the same time. I HATE that social room where they ask stupid questions. The whole reason I liked this show vs. American Idol was because it seemed to move a little quicker. That doesn’t seem to be the case now. I find myself listening to the singers and then the first coach until they get to Christine. Even when she has something positive to say, it’s always in relation to herself.

My final four would be Jermaine, Tony, Chris and Juliet.
