If some of these singers are songwriters, they may not want to use their own songs as they could lose the rights to it being all theirs. The legal agreements they have to sign are to the show’s advantage, not the artist. So, the singing of covers allows them to get more broad visibility, but allows them to keep the rights to their songs, especially any they write once on The Voice contract.
Jshain, I only have 402,500 points, so still rooting for you to move up the leaderboard. You reminded me that I don’t really have singer from each genre. I will have to work in that.
It always bemuses me why people will pipe in on a thread about how disinterested they are…and just want to tell people how ridiculous this all is. If you’re not interested, bypass the thread! I’m disinterested in 95% of the threads here, but I don’t go on them to inform others of my lack of interest.
Did anybody watch tonight? Knockouts are over. I think they will do a recap tomorrow and remind us who the top 20 are. I mostly agreed with the winners, although I liked the piano guy better than Sa’Raya. And I really think I liked Mae better than Darby, though neither are my cup of tea. I thought Austin was strong. Aaron has IT, but I really thought Miley would choose Josh. Glad he was stolen. I think he (Josh) is very interesting and look forward to hearing more from him.
Just finished watching the knockouts part 3 performances on NBC.com. Did Alicia steal Josh? I cannot tell by just watching the clips but I don’t recall anyone else having their knockout steal left. Besides this being the season for dynamic divas, it is also a strong season for gravelly voice male vocalists. Agree with musicmom, not excited with Darby or Mae.
I lost Nolan and replaced him with Sundance. I should have kept my original team after the blinds because I had him and Sa’Rayah. Josh Halverson is already ranked #63 on iTunes and the show is still airing here on the West Coast. Brendan Fletcher is #147. Josh might be one of the sleepers. Glad I have him on my team.
Will post the iTunes rankings in the morning from tonight, the last of the knockout rounds.
Busdriver11 I didn’t post to say how disinterested I was. I asked for information because I genuinely don’t get the attraction of this show and others like it and thought perhaps someone could provide an explanation. I’ve never understood the attraction of these so called “reality” shows. They are scripted.
Apparently there is no explanation so I’ll just leave the thread. Enjoy.
I like hearing a wide variety of songs sung by a wide variety of voices in a wide variety of styles. I love the fact that the auditions are blind, so that the voice is all that matters at that stage, and that the show includes people of all shapes and ages. I often find the coaching valuable and interesting.

Oh please. You never asked people for information about why they liked the show. You were merely registering your disgust at the “karaoke” and “scripted performances” of people who apparently will never be successful at their own material.
If you really were interested, Consolations explanation nails it. And people enjoy watching talented singers, even if they will not all become superstars.
Consolation asked last week, or the week before, when were our teams locked. I thought when they got to 12. I was wrong! They are locked NOW (at 20). Hope everyone playing has 5 on their team because you won’t be able to add any.
It’s on now. I haven’t watched much this season, but I’m trying again tonight.
ÉTA -I thought We was good, but Josh isn’t doing it for me with his song choice or his look.
